MBFWA 2014: Gail Sorronda MBFWA 2014

After launching her label in 2005 and opening her flagship store in Brisbane in 2012, Gail Sorronda’s spring/summer 2014 collection show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia was a unique juxtaposition of romantic/goth style has caught the eye of international designers, such as Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana.

This year Sorronda’s collection was inspired by mermaids. Models appeared as if they had just emerged from the water with slick hair and shimmering legs. The music played droplets of water mirroring the idea of an underwater kingdom. There were translucent pieces which glimmered with sequins and rich silks were balanced with the rubbery texture of latex. The silhouette was a floaty, boxy shape with cropped tops and A line skirts.

There were also touches of gingham and cartoon style prints which balanced the underwater fantasy theme. My picks are the white print dress with balloon sleeves, a fluid silk lbd and a classic little mermaid tee available now on the shop the runway site.
