Breaking news: Alexander McQueen found dead in London home

The Daily Mail are reporting that visionary fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead over night, presumed to be suicide.

A source at McQueen’s office this afternoon confirmed his death, saying: ‘It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.’

Britian’s The Sun has also just released a report, quoting a source who told of  how McQueen was found hanged inside is London home after becoming depressed following the death of his mother last week.

A source said: “An ambulance was called at 10am today. Alexander was found hanging inside.”

The amazingly talented designer reportedly wrote on his Twitter page (@McQueenWorld, which has been since deleted from Twitter):

On February 3 he wrote:
“I’m letting my followers know the my mother passed away yesterday if it she had not me nor would you RIPmumxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.”

Followed by: “but life must go on.”

On February 7 he wrote:
“sunday evening been a ****ing awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together.”

While the fashion world is focused on New York Fashion Week which began today, McQueen’s death will surely shock the normally unflappable fashion pack. A creative genius, McQueen built his iconic label from the ground up with the help of his late friend, Isabella Blow (who incidentally took her own life three years ago).

UPDATE: It has been revealed that Lee Alexander McQueen committed suicide on the eve of his mother Joy’s funeral. It was said that McQueen was devastated when his mother died as they had shared a close relationship and was struggling to cope with her death.

The news of his passing fell on the same day as his McQ presentation at New York Fashion Week and was promptly canceled. His friends and the wider fashion industry have all spoken out about their shock and sadness at the passing of a true fashion genius.

More news as it breaks

Rest in Peace Alexander McQueen.
