The Kate Moss and Johnny Depp photos that supposedly inspired Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan and photographed Yu Tsai say that their Muse magazine cover and editorial was inspired by Kate Moss and Johnny Depp in the early 1990s.

“The three of them [Lohan, Petey Wright and Sofia Boutella] were very sensual and provocative, but Lindsay understands this piece was created not for any sensational value other than art,” said Tsai. “She is stunning and radiates in the pictures. Lindsay is incredibly focused. It’s raw, it’s exposed, this is her at her best. She told me: ‘I want to make this iconic.'”

After seeing the photos spread around the web like wildfire, we were curious. Which photo shoot did Johnny Depp and Kate Moss do together that looks like they turned a hotel into a drug den?

The answer is not one.

Depp did two shoots where Moss played a guest star role in 1994; one was photographed by Annie Leibovitz and the other by Francios-Marie Barnier. The Leibovitz shoot was shot in the Royalton Hotel in New York where the pair was photographed together in a hotel bed (above) in a very raw romantic display. Meanwhile the matching Lohan & Wright shot looks sleezy and seems more inspired by Lohan’s partying ways – did we mention the MUSE magazine shoot took place at her favourite partying location, the Chateau Marmont in LA.

Meanwhile in the Barnier photoshoot (below) the pair are such a loving couple who are at ease in each other’s company that it’s not dirty or sleazy at all.

There’s no sign of a three-some in these photos either.

Lohan’s editorial is just the opposite of iconic as the images are no different from tabloid shots of the actress after a night out on the town which end at the Chateau Marmont with random strangers. Moss and Depp’s photos depitc a love story where the feelings can not be replicated by an actress and a model who have no deeper connection than some numbers in their bank account or some write ups in a magazine.

But we did find reports of an event in September 1994 which inspired many more stories of a torrid love affair. According to BudgetTravel.com:

Guests at Manhattan’s posh Mark Hotel were awakened at 5:30 a.m. on September 13, 1994, by the sounds of shattering glass, snapping wood, and loud domestic squabbling. When police entered the $1,200-per-night Presidential Suite, they found actor Johnny Depp and his then-girlfriend, supermodel Kate Moss, sitting amidst a pile of debris -but they did not find the armadillo Depp reportedly blamed the vandalism on. Depp was taken to the city’s 19th Precinct station house, booked on felony criminal mischief charges, and billed $9,767 for the damages.

There are no reports of any other people in the room at the time, but given reported Moss and Depp’s drug backgrounds, it’s probably likely that Lohan and Tsai was inspired by this incident and the two photoshoots in 1994 And let’s not forget that Lohan has a penchant for imitating iconic photoshoots – she channelled Marilyn Monroe for New York Magazine last year to much publicity.

So where did Tsai go so wrong with the MUSE magazine shoot? My guess is simple, Lindsay Lohan. The girl is no Kate Moss, circa 1990s or now.
