Modeling for Balenciaga: Miranda Kerr proves she’s not so commercial

A versatile look is crucial for any model hoping for a career that is cutting edge but commercial at the same time. After all commercial is where the money is – Gisele Bundchen wouldn’t be the world’s richest model by just modeling for the high end fashion houses. But her former Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr has always been labeled commercial but not always in a good way, perhaps because of her sun kissed girl-next-door look and a smile complete with adorable dimples.

This spring summer 2010 season Kerr has made an effort to shake off that tag with a walk down the Balenciaga runway on Thursday at Paris Fashion Week. Looking almost unrecognizable, the Australian model looked every inch an edgy Balenciaga girl – a show models would kill to be in.

Grazia’s Beauty Director Annabel Jones claims this unexpected casting is a sign that fashion is changing and this could be the new type of runway model.

“Designers are much more focused now on looking to the street for influences in fashion, and Miranda knows how to put great looks together – she’s becoming something of a fashion force on her own. She’s quite cool and glossy, but still cute and accessible. Maybe what we’re seeing is a new type of runway model.”

What do you think, is this casting a sign of the times?

It may be a long stretch before we see Kerr in a high end advertising campaign, but it is great to see Kerr on the (non Victoria’s Secret) runway again with her last appearance being at the Betsey Johnston show in the Fall 2007 season – according to Style.com.

Meanwhile, the girls who scored the covetable opening and closing slots were Kasia Struss and Patricia van der Vliet respectively.

So funny what is said at the end of the article! Miranda has the new Prada campaign.
She was very good at Balenciaga. She is a good model, no care if it’s for HF or commercial brands. The fashion world seems really mind limited and pretentious.
