SPOTLIGHT: Marni at Milan Fashion Week A/W 2005

Michelle L - March 8, 2005

Consuelo Castiglioni

The bright and whimsical charm of Marni was a little darker this season. Designer Consuelo Castiglioni introduced her collection for Fall/Winter2005 with uncharacteristically sombre shades. Then again, when influential designers such as Marc Jacobs and Miuccia Prada are in a more serious mood, the tone for everyone else is pretty much set.

And so it was at Marni, which is known for its cute, hippyish clothes.

Yet, it wasn't all doom and gloom. Castiglioni's collection still had flowing shapes and a splash of colourful prints. The girls who love Marni (some have affectionately labelled them 'Marni-vores') will no doubt gobble them up. I particularly liked the odd, balloon-like dress worn by Australia's model-of-the-moment Gemma Ward. It wasn't a look many girls could pull off (kudos to Gemma), and you definitely will not see it on an Oscar red carpet. But, Oscar fashion is all about boring glamour. Marni girls, in a serious mood or not, will always be quirky and distinctive.

Here are some of my favorite outfits...
