First look: Jean Paul Gaultier for Target, the whole look book

[click image to enlarge - more images below]

It’s here, the Jean Paul Gaultier for Target look book! He is the legendary designer who designs for the equally legendary house of Hermes and we have the images from Jean Paul Gaultier’s exclusive collection for Target’s Designer Collaborations series.

Rock n’ Roll chic, Hollywood glamour, bold Hip-Hop attitude and Punk alternative are just some of the trends that reportedly inspired Gaultier’s collection, meaning there is something for every girl with graphic leggings, high-waisted pants, shorts, dresses, mini skirts, bold shouldered jackets, trench coats, cropped tanks and swimwear with prices ranging from $17.99 to $199.99.

“My collection with Target pays homage to the wide range of personalities that make up the diverse styles of American women,” said Jean Paul Gaultier. “From ingénue to rock ‘n roll, this collection celebrates women of all ages and a host of distinctive, iconic American styles.”

Our favourite piece? The Karl Lagerfeld-esque fingerless driving gloves. Other than that I think the collection is cute and there is something for everyone who’s under 25. Or maybe that’s just me?

Move over Tavi, Oyster’s back with a much bigger bow than yours

We all love a good come back queen and no doubt some of you will have been eagerly awaiting for Oyster Magazine’s relaunch/comeback issue released today. With a redesigned look – from the inside and out – issue 85’s cover line pays homage to the rumours that Oyster was gone for good by announcing that ‘Print is Dead’ on their cover.

But it’s what inside that counts with former fashion journalist (and former Australian Harpers Bazaar editor) Jamie Huckbody interviewing Pierre Cardin and paying tribute to Irving Penn in two features. Even though it has a new cover price of $9.95, we think cover model Annabella from Priscilla’s (an in our opinion, words by Huckbody) is worth it right? She certainly gives Tavi’s bow a run for her money.

Vivienne Westwood’s mad man, model and Pamela Anderson for Spring/Summer 2010

Imagine being in the room when Vivienne Westwood and Jurgen Teller were discussing ideas for her spring/summer 2010 advertising campaign. The kooky queen of punk fashion has taken her fashion campaigns up a notch this season with the addition of up-and-coming Argentinean model Tati Cotliar joining last season’s group which consists of Westwood, Pamela Anderson (couldn’t you tell from the boobs alone?) and Andreas Kronthaler.

Crazy bunch. I would have love to have been a fly on the wall for the Westwood Man, Gold Label and Accessories ads (below).

Karl Lagerfeld sues over ‘counterfeit’ Spoon Light weight loss pills

It seems that Karl Lagerfeld can’t seem to get away from counterfeiters – first with his designs for Chanel and Fendi, and now with his line of weight loss products. Lagerfeld and his business partner French physician, Dr Jean Claude Houdret have filed a law suit against a Taiwanese entertainer Hsiung Hsiu-hui (stage name, Hsiung Hai-ling) and her sister Hsiung Hsiu-chen after they reneged on a four-year deal with their company Sunrex Sarl. The Sunrex Sarl are demanding €40 million in compensation after the Hsiung sisters ceases distributing their Spoon Light and Spoon Cut products in Taiwan, instead subcontracted a Tainan pharmaceutical company to produce their own version of the diet product. Meanwhile Hsiung Hsiu-Hui has counter-sued Dr Houdret for defamation. She claims that he called her “international fraudster”.

No doubt Sunrex Sarl originated from Lagerfeld’s own weight loss experience where reportedly he shed 42kg in 13 months thanks to Dr Houdret’s Spoon Light diet, later renamed the Karl Lagerfeld Diet (which is also the name of the book).

Robert Duffy on Marc Jacobs: Working on a movie project, to appear in men’s fragrance ad and more from Twitter

The fashionistas are loving that Marc Jabobs’ long time business partner Robert Duffy is on Twitter (albeit until after his New York Fashion Week show on February 16th) because it’s provided fashion bloggers a lot of juicy things to write about. If following @RobertCDuffy is proving to be a little too hard, Fashionologie have gathered some of his top tweets. From a potential Australian boutique, movie projects to e-commerce and the new Marc Jacobs men’s fragrance ads, Duffy has revealed a lot. Now if only someone could tell Duffy and Jacobs that the Twittering should be a permanent thing. [Fashionologie]

Madonna for Louis Vuitton, pre youth-Photoshop (or post ageing-Photoshop depending on your take)

Shock horror, Madonna’s ads for Louis Vuitton was photoshopped!

In a Photoshop world, I’d like to think that the photo on the right is a “real photo” of Madonna as she looked before the bright lights and heavy airbrushing came to cross her skin for her Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2009 ad campaigns. But before we all start yelping about how we should be embracing the natural aging process instead of hiding it, on closer inspection the photo looks a little suspect when you look at the evidence.

There is no denying that in the “before” shot, Madonna is definitely showing signs of age, but why are there wrinkles all over her face and neck with old-woman arms to boot – but her legs look perfectly smooth? Yes she could be wearing sheer tights, but isn’t that all too convenient? A good airbrush artist can age you just as easily as they can make you look young again.

We found a behind the scenes image (below left) from the Louis Vuitton shoot where Madonna is pictured with Marc Jacobs where there is hardly a wrinkle on the Material Girl’s face. Though the photo was probably taken post-make up, we do have to take into consideration that it may have been touched up slightly before being officially released, but Madonna’s arms are toned and not old-woman-skinny.

Rumour: Marc Jacobs to open a store in Australia

How much do we love a rumour started by something someone wrote on Twitter? Marie Claire Australia are musing that Marc Jacobs could be opening a store in Australia after Marc Jacobs president Robert Duffy wrote: “We are talking about doing something in Australia. We shall see. I like the idea.”

A MJ store, as the brand is affectionately known, would be a hit with fashionistas in Australia who’s only access to the brand is through David Jones and Incu or online through retailers like LuisaViaRoma. We wonder whether a Marc Jacobs boutique would open up in Sydney or Melbourne first…

A preview of Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania & Lee collaboration hits the runway

We told you last year that Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania label was collaborating with Lee Jeans on a men’s and women’s denim collection. Well it hit the runway at Men’s Fashion Week in Milan and at Hong Kong Fashion Week last month without much fanfare!

It was touted as a collection that would take inspiration from Westwood’s archive of seminal punk and pirate collections from the 1970s and 1980s with a range of bright over-dyed denim in electric blue, red, emerald green, camel and white as well as metallic printed gold and copper denim… but aside from the metallic gold skinny jeans, it’s not quite lived up to it’s punk/pirate inspirations. I suspect these looks only show a preview of what’s to come, but its suffice to say (denim wise) so far it’s a little underwhelming.

Trash bags go high end thanks to Louis Vuitton

In 2008 when Australian fashion brand TV launched a vinyl ‘trash bag’ handbag they sold like hotcakes down under – even with a AUD$180 price tag (approx US$130 at the time). I could not fathom why. But low and behold the trash bag has risen to a new level (with a hefty new $1,960 price tag) thanks to Louis Vuitton. Called the “Raindrop Beasace”, it features a drawstring opening that resembles the ties that pulls together on an everyday garbage bag you can buy at the supermarket. The only difference is that it also features a leather strap and Louis Vuitton logo. I’d like to say that this won’t sell, but we did see women walking around with Vuitton’s cheap checked shopping bag with their logo printed on it – the one from their Spring/Summer 2007 collection. Koreans spoof David Beckham’s Giorgio Armani underwear ad to sell Good-Nite nappies

“Children who are no longer using diapers can wear Good-Nites to prevent bed wetting. We show Good-Nites being worn as fashionable underwear to show children that Good-Nites aren’t diapers.”

So said Diamond Ogilvy in Seoul, South Korea.

To us it’s just a spoof of David Beckham’s Giorgio Armani underwear ad to flog off Good-Nites nappies as a ‘fashion’ item for children. And the baby is a much better poser than Beckham it seems, just check out that look on his face. Hlarious. What will the ad men think of next?

Before she was Lady Gaga, she was a club singer in a disco ball

Isn’t this photo heaven? I couldn’t decide if one of Lady Gaga’s backup dancers was really a man or not but even in 2008 it seemed that Lady Gaga would be destined to be a new gay idol thanks to her outrageous get ups and pop friendly songs.

The Grammy award winner clawed her way from a girl working the club scene and music festival circuit to one who was invited by perform at the A|X Music Lounge at the Winter Music Conference in 2008, singing three songs which included Paparazzi and Let’s Dance. Even before she brought in the no-pants look, she was sporting them in the form of a disco ball.

Ah Gaga, what a change a proper record deal and costume designer can do for a girl.

Check out the video of her performing below.

Victoria Beckham gets cheeky in Love with Giles Deacon

We secretly love Victoria Beckham here at SASSYBELLA.com; her tongue-in-cheek humour shows a different side to the often polished WAG and fashion entrepreneur. She was recently interviewed by Giles Deacon for the third issue of Love magazine and of course some of her wit shone through. When the pair discussed how important it was for Beckham to try on her own collection as a test drive, she quizzed Deacon to see if he did likewise. “Do you not try your dresses on, then?” she asked Deacon. “I don’t know how men do it. I’m sure you must do it secretly.” Love it. [WWD]

Dita von Teese designs eyemask for Moschino

If you think there is nothing more luxurious than to pull a silk eye mask over your eyes as you drift off to sleep, well we have news that may make sleeping a little more fancy. Burlesque dancer Dita von Teese has teamed up with Italian fashion brand Moschino to design a limited edition eye mask to be sold exclusively on Moschino.com.

The pretty little eye mask is made out of pink silk-satin with a spotted lack overlay and features “trompe l’oeil” eyelash detailing and the words ‘Dita for Moschino’ embellished in rhinestones. For an extra luxury appeal, it comes in it a matching case and retails for €120 where 30% of the proceeds will be donated to amfAR to fund AIDS Research. This pretty little eye mask would make a great gift (or something to ask for this Valentine’s Day) and is on sale now.
