Hot on the heels of Versace’s return to Paris was the Christian Dior Haute Couture show, with the French fashion house giving a nod to fashion of decades past with a 1950s inspired collection. It was designer Bill Gaytten’s second Couture collection for the House while they search for a replacement for John Galliano. This year Gaytten kept the collection much more demure and sophisticated in true Dior style, as opposed to last year’s eccentric Couture showing, which included clowns. Each of the looks presented were of breathtaking beauty, many with the signature Dior fitted waist detailing made famous by the New Look, and whimsical ballroom-style skirts. Coupled with beaded detailing, sheer skirts, voluminous layering and girlish bows, each gown was more magical than the last, with hues ranging from vivid red, to silvers and deep purples, and finally black dominating throughout the collection. For the floor length gowns, layers of tulle flowed, with many of these looks also accompanied by elbow-length gloves, which accentuated the feminine tones of the 1950s themed looks.
Shorter dresses added a playful element to the collection and complemented their floor-length counterparts perfectly, with sheer layers and beaded detailing shown throughout the shorter options. In true 1950s style, the models wore their hair sleek and bobbed, with minimal makeup allowing the strong, graceful tones of the show to take centre stage.

High fashion has never been this personal – KARL (a lower priced line by Karl Lagerfeld) is launching exclusively at Net-A-Porter.com on January 25th 2012 (January 26th if you’re time zone is closer to Australia than Europe). We were given a chance to get up close and personal with the collection here in Sydney as the luxury online retail gears up for a global launch in five countries.
If Karl Lagerfeld was a hipster-chic girl, this is the collection for her. Modern and sleek, KARL is a modern sportswear collection which brings in this season’s hottest trends, from matte sequins to PVC, leather, denim and hardware. But as always there were clever twists and turns that makes a Lagerfeld collection just that much more desirable, and it was in the details. Jean tags were embossed with the KARL logo (which of course features a silhouette of Lagerfeld’s head), while the same silhouette featured heavily on the brass hardware, canvas bags (which retails from a cheap AUD$30), slouchy t-shirts and even as a houndstooth-esque print on denim and jacket lining. It’s these clever little touches that make you love a collection because you realise a lot of thought went into the creation.
We all want a piece of Lagerfeld, and with four detachable collars, cut-off gloves, bags and other accessories avaliable, it’s hard not to be tempted by the affordability of the KARL collection We were given a chance to style our own looks for personalised photos for SASSYBELLA.com, so we tasked Nadia from The Animal Orchestra to do the styling and here are the stunning results.
Haute Couture week kicked off in Paris on Monday, and what better way to start the festivities than by welcoming back one of fashion’s favourite houses to the City of Lights.
In the first Atelier Versace couture collection in eight years, Donatella sent models down the golden staircase runway dripping in colour, sparkles, and chic embellished gowns. Throughout the fifteen evening wear looks presented, bright oranges, yellows and lime green hues dominated, with the sleek gowns and minis radiating that red-carpet-ready look we’ve come to expect from Versace. The models’ slicked back hair and dramatic, smoky make-up seemed to heighten the dramatic tone of the show, and only highlighted the Italian power player’s successful return to Couture catwalks. Diane Kruger and Cameron Diaz were spotted front row, among the first to see the classic, fitted silhouettes of Versace couture. Perhaps the stand out of the show was a dramatic floor length lime green gown, complete with a thigh-high split and heavy structured detailing at the hips. Softening the look was sheer detailing around the torso, which gave the gown a considerably more feminine look.
With shows such as Chanel, Giorgio Armani, Elie Saab and Valentino still to look forward to, you can be sure Haute Couture week will continue to light up Paris and remind fashionistas the world over why we still love Couture so much.

But before the weekend begins, it is time to decide on something fun, outrageous or just plain relaxing to do, and this weekend there is certainly no shortage of fun events on, whether it be in your backyard, or a daydream away.

After writing about a faux television commercial we shot last year yesterday, we’ve debating what was going to be our first ‘news’ post of 2012. Sorry Golden Globes, you didn’t make the cut. Instead we went with the ridiculously sexy Spring/Summer 2012 campaign by Just Cavalli.

Sometimes being a blogger leads us down some interesting paths. And this one time, thanks to Pantene’s new Aqua Light range, we were lead into a video studio and asked to “swish” our hair just like Cat Deeley did in their British television commercials (and all those other Pantene commercials we’ve grown up...
Back in October the guys at Dolce & Gabbana had brought together a vertible who’s who of Italian actors to Portofino, Italy to shoot their Spring/Summer 2012 menswear advertising campaign. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the cliffs and the sea, the campaign was shotby Mariano Vivanco and give an intentionally candid...
