I spy… the Chloe Edith bag

Trust Chloe and Phoebe Philo to be the designer of another must-have bag.

It’s utterly beautiful in real life - I spotted the cognac coloured one on the arm of a Fashion Director of a fashion & beauty magazine at Fashion Week.

And then I wanted on too.

This tote, with its pouch style pocket on the front and washed leather, looked just “worn in” and is structured enough without seeming too stiff. Perfect for a girl on the run who needs to stash everything from her purse, keys, lip gloss, water and so much more.

Net-A-Porter.com has them for £560.85 if you’re on the market for one.

It comes in blue, tan, and a dark brown.

But the cognac one that went down the runway is the must have colour, not too orange/tan coloured or chocolate brown. For me, it’s a bag that could potentially be a bag you could carry all year round.

Haven’t spotted it on the arm of any major celebs yet, but time will tell I suppose. Next thing you know every wanna-be “it” girl will have one.

But maybe it’s a good thing. Then I might not want it anymore…

Fashion it word: Sculptural

Yes, even words come in and out of fashion. Lately all I keep reading about is sculptural this and sculptural that. It’s beening used to define everything from clothes to hair styles.

We all know that sculpture is a statue, usually works made out of things like stone, bronze, and marble. But using it to describe a fashion item or a hair style?

Over time the word has been use describe the shape of things, including a person’s bone structure (though more commonly you would use the word ‘chiseled’, especially when describing someone’s check bones or jaw line).

As fashion can be interpreted in so many different ways, people have gone through their thesauruses and dictionaries for more adjectives to describe things. So for structured pieces that fit like a glove, and perhaps even have the draped materials like those classic Roman statues, they may be described as sculptural.

Or as the press release for the Toni Maticevski Spring Summer 06 / 07 collection said, (pictured above) ‘sculptural tailoring punctuated by voluminous moments’.

TopShop to NY, Abercrombie to London

Get ready for a chain store swap.

TopShop, the mega English chain store selling super fashionable pieces at a low price, is planning to open a flagship store in New York. No word on where they’re opening yet though. Meanwhile Abercrombie & Finch look to make it a straight swap by opening a London store at 7 Burlington Gardens, formerly the site of the Jil Sander flagship.

Both stores plan to open their flagship stores next year.

So when are they both coming to Australia?

Ozdesigner.com, an Aussie store with selling fab ‘Oz’ designers!

I tend to rant and rave about my favourite Australian designers, but few of you actually get to see the clothes or buy them. Well OzDesigner.com was recently bought to my attention.. They stock so many of my favourite Aussie designers I couldn’t get off the site (though I eventually had to because the one dress I really really wanted had sold out of my size).

It was about time someone stocked designers like Karen Walker, Belinda Fairbanks, Samantha Willis, Camilla and Marc, Alice McCall, and White Suede online.

Left to right: Karen Walker Cotton Voile top, Alice McCall Out of Bounds dress, Camilla and Marc Frances Pull Over knit, Camilla and Marc Grace frock.

Celebrity designers: Sienna for Pepe, Victoria for Rock & Republic, Rachel Zoe for Leiber

Soon after Pepe Jeans annouced that Sienna Miller woud design a denim collection for the denim label, like Victoria Beckham did for Rock Republic, rumours of Kate Moss starting her own clothing line has sparked up again, according to the WWD.com.

Hmmm… while they both dress well (though Sienna is looking considerably worse for wear of late) a whole clothing line would be very interesting. Like it’s hard to customise denim… all Victoria Beckham really did was stick a crown on the back pockets of “her” line of jeans and slash them here and there.

We’ll just have to wait and see what Sienna comes up with and guess what Kate could have in store for us in a few years time.

P.S. If you haven’t already heard, stylist to the super skinny, Rachel Zoe, will be designing a handbag collection in collaboration with Judith Leiber. The collection will be in stores in a few months time… no prizes for guessing which stick thin ‘celebs’ will be carrying her bags then.

The Devil Wears Prada - the movie

Coming soon to a cinema near you!

The movie staring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway is based on the book by the same name written by Laura Weisberger, former assistant to Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour.

View a preview at Fashion.Addict.Diary.

The clip looks reasonably interesting, I don’t think it would be half as good as the book though. The book reminded me of a (female) boss I use to have when I did a stint in fashion PR during uni. She had me buying fresh bones for her dog as well doing as her grocery shopping. And a few other things too, but let’s not rehash those times.

The Devil Wears Prada, one of the most eagerly awaited movies by many fashionista’s around the world hits big screens in America in June, while the Australian release isn’t for a few more month (beyond unfair!).

I spy… the Dior Gaucho bag

I think I saw this bag in real life the other day at Mercedes Australian Fashion Week, but I can’t be sure. I saw so many designer bags I couldn’t keep a straight enough list in my head.

It seems that the new Dior bag, which is a new take on the original Dior Saddle bag, is getting quite popular with the celebrities. Spotted recently on the arm of Nicky Hilton, Mischa Barton and of course Sienna Miller. So there’s no doubt more fashion concious celebs are bound to follow suit over the next few months.

There’s something about the rough and tough look of the Gaucho that everyone likes - that or the oversized buckle and charms.

What is with everything being oversized at the moment? First Chloe does the huge padlock, then Fendi with the guitar shaped buckle on everything from bags and belts…

You can pick up a Guacho bag from eLuxury in blue, red, white or black for under US$2,000.
I’m not loving them, but they are quite edgy. So I wouldn’t mind the bue one… I wonder if I’ll win the lottery sometime soon.

Margherita Missoni here there and everywhere!

Have you noticed that Margherita Missoni seems to be everywhere at the moment? As the face of Missoni’s perfume, she seems to be featured in every fashion / women’s / girl’s magazine under the sun as well as on every fashionable red carpet on both sides of the Atlantic… how does the girl do it and manage to look so fantastic!

Just last week she was at the Pirelli party at the Guggenheim museum with her younger sister Teresa and they both spoke to FashionWeekDaily.com.

Both sisters sounded so down to earth it’s sweet, and have a flair of fashion (you would hope so wouldn’t you).

Day 3 at MAFW - Nylon Flock by Nicola Finetti

This was my favourite show so far, then again I have always been a big fan of Nicola Finetti since I worked backstage at his show a few years back to find a lovely but quiet Italian man behind the intricately beautiful designs.

His diffusion line Nylon Flock didn’t let is many fans down.

It was a collection that was simple ready-to-wear. Especially in the Australian climate where pieces have to be functional but light for our sunny summer weather. Down the runway came cropped fitted jackets of varying arm lengths, skirts of all kinds, from minis to tulip skirts, as well as pretty dresses and tops in versatile prints. The colours were natural to offset the stitch detailing, beading and lace detail.

Now I really want the finale dress, well I really want somewhere to wear the dress so I have an excuse to buy it next summer! This was definitely one of my favorite collections from MAFW SS 06/07.
