A date with Kristin Davis to the Sex and the City movie premiere

A date with Kristin Davis was up for grabs on eBay with the proceeds going to Oxfam. Why did anyone not tell us that the date included a trip to the Manhattan premiere of the Sex and the City movie and a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes?

The auction ended earlier this week with the winning bid from a woman in Japan who is forking out $52,100. She will arrive at the May 27, 2008 premiere via a chauffeured car service after having her hair and makeup done at Manhattan’s Prive Salon. She will then “meet and greet” with Davis on camera at the premiere after walking down the red carpet in her new Jimmy Choo Felix shoes (RRP £395.00).

How much would you have paid for this opportunity? $52,100 is not a bad price considering someone paid $40,100 for a date with Scarlett Johansson recently.

Marchesa branches out into wedding dresses

British fashion label, Marchesa, co-founded by Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman, is branching out from beautiful evening and cocktail gowns into wedding dresses.

The Marchesa bridal collection is already well in development and set to be launched next month. Perhaps at Bridal Fashion Week in New York?

The recently wedded actress-cum-designer, Chapman, created her own gown for her wedding to Mirmax co-founder Harvey Weinstein last December, with Chapman and Craig’s wedding credentials also stretching Coleen McLoughlin’s £100,000 wedding dress for her summer nuptials to English soccer player, Wayne Rooney.

Not a bad start for a brand that was established in 2004.

‘Fair Trial My Arse’ says Agent Provocateur and Reprieve

Agent Provocateur has always been a little on the cheeky side, and if they have something to say they say it. And that’s just what co-founder Joe Corre has done.

When he reportedly discovered that members of Reprieve, a U.K. human rights charity, had been accused of smuggling undies to a prisoner held at Guantánamo Bay, he decided to help. Obviously not by smuggling in some Agent Provocatuer knickers, after all he could get in a bit of trouble, but by creating the “Fair Trial My Arse” panties with Reprieve founder Clive Stafford Smith.

“I don’t really mind who buys them, or if we sell any at all,” said Corre. “As a company we’ve often taken an interest in the political theater. Whoever said you can’t mix business with politics is obviously an idiot, as the two are inextricably linked.”

The bright orange knickers match the orange of a prison jumpsuit and are on sale down in AP stores in the US and UK with half the proceeds going to Reprieve.

Avon have just announced that they are collaborating with Emanuel Ungaro Maison to create a women’s and men’s signature fragrances for the French fashion house. This collaboration follows in the footsteps of the successful Christian Lacroix and Avon fragrance partnership late last year.

“We are thrilled to partner with a company that is so deeply connected to women and men all over the world. U by Ungaro for Her and U by Ungaro for Him are aiming to capture the design house’s effortless sensuality and bring Avon consumers worldwide a piece of the Parisian soul that is Ungaro. U by Ungaro for Her is a fresh, floral woody scent with sensual top notes of Bergamot Blossom, Wet Freesia and Pepper Blossom mingling with mid notes of Acacia Aura, Living Lotus Flower and Osmanthus. While U by Ungaro for Him is a woody Aromatic watery fragrance that offers an airy freshness and a sophisticated blend of rich, textural woods.

GHD’s Thy Will Be Done commercial banned

GHD, most commonly known for their hair straighteners, have had their latest television commercial in British banned by the Advertising Standards Authority for causing offence with their ‘Thy Will Be Done’ slogan.

The commercials feature women praying for things like ‘May my new curls make her feel choked with jealousy’ and ‘Make him dump her tonight and come home with me’ and finishing with a screen shot of the phrase ‘Thy Will Be Done’ where the letter T resembles a cross.

“We concluded that the eroticised images of the women apparently in prayer, in conjunction with religious symbols such as the votive candle and the rosary beads, the use of the phrase ‘thy will be done’ from the Lord’s Prayer and the image of the letter ‘t’ as the Cross of Jesus, were likely to cause serious offence, particularly to Christians,” the ASA ruled.

According to reports 23 members of the public and the archdeacon of Liverpool complained that the campaign was offensive to Christians.

But be your own judge, check out a cuter version of the campaign below featuring a young boy who has to choose between a curly haired girl and a straight hair girl. The more grown up version can be viewed here.

Rachel Bilson to design Edie Rose collection for DKNY Jeans

It seems that if you’re a young actress, clothing labels will sign you up to design a clothing line. Next cab off the rank? Rachel Bilson with DKNY Jeans.

What is interesting is that Bilson contacted DKNY Jeans, and not the other way around. “Fans of ‘The O.C.’ really like DKNY Jeans, and I know they make great stuff, so I thought it could be good,” she explained.

Set to be called Edie Rose for DKNY Jeans (named after her grandmother and a family friend) the collection will be a fashion forward junior sportswear line set to hit stores this September. Consisting of 15 sportswear pieces, it will include button-down tops, sweaters, jackets, T-shirts, dresses and straight leg and skinny leg dark denim jeans. The monochrome colour palette will be offset by pops of yellow, said to be inspired by a yellow scarf Bilson owned.

“I have a yellow scarf that I love and I was really inspired by it,” Bilson said. “This line is my main focus right now,” she said. “I can’t draw at all, so I won’t be doing any sketches, but I am learning to sew. I think it’s important to know more about the whole process of making clothes.”

Alice McCall to design for Topshop

Hot off the news that Richard Chai is designing a collection for Target, popular Australian designer, Alice McCall is set to design a collection for Topshop.

Known for her quirky-cool boho style pieces which fuse bright colours with fun flirty skirts and dresses, McCall’s collection for Topshop would be hotly anticipated with her pieces seen worn by the likes of Mischa Barton, Natalia Imbruglia and Destiny’s Child.

StylePS are reporting that pieces will retail from around £80 compared to more than double that price and set to hit Topshop on May 5. Judging from the sketches, these are pieces that would be perfect for your summer party wardrobe - and much more cooler than Kate Moss for Topshop. At least I think so.

Cheap Monday part of a slew of Swedish brands acquired by H&M

Affordable denim brand, Cheap Monday, has been acquired by H&M along with a slew of brands owned by Fabric Scandinavien, their parent company.

H&M now own 60% of Fabric Scandinavien, which is a great partnership when you consider that Cheap Monday has a cult following, almost like H&M’s own target market. The Swedish fast fashion giant reportedly paid 564 million Swedish crowns ($91.5 million) for its new acquisition, which also includes brands like Weekday, Monki and Sunday Sun.

“We see potential to develop stores and concepts in other markets,” H&M chief executive Rolf Eriksen said “By working together we can accelerate the growth further. We can also do it in a more efficient manner by drawing on H&M’s experience and knowledge of production, logistics and establishment.”

Could this mean Cheap Monday will be available in H&M now, making them more readily available all over the world?
