Naomi Campbell forgets that she’s been a Vogue cover girl

It’s probably a good thing Naomi Campbell doesn’t ply her trade in an industry which requires her to check her facts before making accusations. The black British model reportedly said that British Vogue is racist because they have never put her on their cover.

“They’ll put the same white model for half the year — I swear like six times, but wouldn’t put me on once in my own country. But I still want my British Vogue cover,” said Naomi while discussing racial discrimination on the catwalk recently.

She also said she appeared on the cover of French Vogue only because Yves Saint Laurent “called up … and told them he’d pull his ads if they didn’t. So of course I got the cover.”

If you check Vogue.co.uk’s Cover archive, you will see that Naomi has graced the cover of UK Vogue eight times since 1987, five times solo, once with P Diddy, and twice with various other models. Maybe the “same white model” she’s talking about is model buddy Kate Moss who’s appeared on the cover 24 times since 1993…

Models aren’t always perfect, they trip too

This clip of top models Jessica Stam, Naomi Campbell (on the catwalk for Vivienne Westwood), Erin O’Connor, and Karen Elson tripping up on the catwalk is like watching a car crash knowing it will happen but you’re powerless to stop it. After a few minutes of watching this clip, you almost get the sense that even models who’s livelihood relies on how they walk on the catwalk are human after all.

What do you think?

What did Dita von Teese walk through in though Christian Louboutin heels? The soles are so horribly scratched and tattered. That’s not how the beautiful red sole of Christian Louboutin heels should look!

Does Sarah Jessica Parker know what blogging is?

In an interview with the Star Tribune to promote her Bitten collection for US chain store, Steve & Barry’s, Sarah Jessica Parker was quoted as saying:

“What’s interesting to know about a blogger, and I’m glad we live in a democracy and we can all have an opinion is that these clothes are not made for people in the fashion industry.

Huh? Well then who are the clothes designer for if they’re using her name and featured in Glamour magazine? It doesn’t quite make sense. Actually the whole paragraph doesn’t make much sense, (which makes me wonder how much work writers and sub editors put in to make celebrities sound coherent.)

After the feedback blogs received about the un-fashionable Bitten collection after images were posted on the web - which were removed after Steve & Barry lawyers threatened legal action - you’d think Steve & Barry and Sarah Jessica Parker would realize the power of the web and blogs when it comes to finding out what people want.

Oh and while Sarah Jessica says that her collection is for people who are not in the fashion industry, then why did she host an exclusive launch for the collection with editors from Vogue, Glamour and WWD in attendance?

Katie Holmes on the cover of Harpers Bazaar

Which one do you prefer?

The blue Australian Harpers Bazaar (May 2007 issue - pictured left), or the pink US Harpers Bazaar (March 2007 issue - pictured right)?

I like the blue one, but I find it rather boring that they used the exact same picture two months later. After all Katie did an entire fashion shoot for the pages inside the magazine as well.

Oh and in fashion magazine related gossip, oops Vogue have done it again…

Vogue Australia was caught out by Media Watch for some more publishing no no’s. First there was that Elizabeth Taylor saga, then the 15 year old on the April cover debate. Now it seems Vogue get inspired by the likes of the London Times, Style.com and the New York magazine.

With all this bad coverage, I sort of suspect a rival fashion magazine in Australia supplied Media Watch with all this information about Vogue Australia.

But I do love how Media Watch ended their segment

Perhaps the best we can say is that fashion journalism mirrors fashion itself. There’s the original and there’s the knock off.

At nearly eight dollars a copy Vogue readers have been paying a high price for the fake.

Bloggers a little to fast for Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten

We’ve all read about how fast news can be reported on online thanks to the internet age, and it seems it was definitely a little too fast for Sarah Jessica Parker’s Bitten collection for Steve & Barry’s.

According to the WWD.com:

Fashion blog Fashionista, published photographs from a password-protected area of a preliminary Bitten web site intended only for long-lead-time monthly magazines. When attorneys from Steve & Barry’s requested Fashionista remove the photos, it did, but by then dozens of other blogs had already posted images, giving plenty of potential customers the chance to put in their two cents.

“I always thought SJP had great personal style, now I see she had a great personal stylist! They look a lot like those clothes she modeled for those Gap ads she did a while back, especially those cuffed jeans!” said one commentator on Fashionista.

Oops. Apparently Fashionista received an anonymous email from someone who claimed to work with the Bitten team which said that Stev & Barry were trying to redesign the pieces before June 7 (the Bitten launch date). “The e-mailer speculated the change-up had perhaps been prompted by the online storm of criticism,” says the WWD.com.

This is interesting. Goes to shows blogs and the online medium can have a huge effect on what goes on in the (fashion) world, as well as being a fantastic place for people to gather opinions on brands and products.

For more on the whole Sarah Jessica Parker/Bitten and Steve & Barry’s saga, read it at WWD.com.

Did you see the Bitten by Sarah Jessica Parker for Steve & Barry photos? I’m sure they’re still online somewhere. I suppose at the end of the at day at least it’s affordable, even if it’s isn’t fashionably ground breaking.

A Swiss newspaper prints a fake Gucci ad

Would you believe this ad was a real Gucci? The guy sort of looks like French and Arsenal soccer player, Thierry Henry, so it could be…

Well it’s not.

This is a picture of a man who had called up a Swiss newspaper, SonntagsZeitung, to book a two-page ad of himself posing beside a bottle of Gucci perfume. He claimed to represent the Italian fashion house and booked a expensive colour spread in Sunday’s edition, a spokesman for the newspaper said.

Christoph Zimmer told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the man asked for the 60,000-Swiss-franc (about $50,000) bill to be sent to Gucci.

“We’ve spoken to Gucci and apologized for the mistake,” Zimmer said. “We’re going to try and get the money back from this guy, but we don’t rate our chances.”

The Milan, Italy-based Gucci could not be reached for comment.

Zimmer said the paper fell for the scam because the call arrived too late for the advertising department to check whether it was genuine.

Some people will do just about anything to get into the papers.

Interesting news that’s not about the Golden Globes

There is so much interesting news in the fashion related world of late. With the Golden Globes just on, here’s something different to read about – rather than who wore what the best and the worst.

In 2007 I will not… be confused like Lindsay Lohan

I think Lindsay forgot to wear tights or pants with this top. It’s not a dress hunny!

I love wearing skirts as dresses, but when a dress is too short it can make the slimmest of girls look like she has thunder thighs. Either that or show off her panties (or lack there of).

Mini length hemlines are in, but that just looks silly Lindsay! Cute shoes though.
