Kate Moss to be dropped by Rimmel? The rumours start up again

Kate Moss’ Rimmel contract is being reviewed again, if the rumours are true, because the beauty brand is reportedly looking for a younger face.

The face of Rimmel since 2001, the partnership has weathered a few bouts of controversy during Moss’ drug allegations in 2005, with rumours that Rimmel wanted to replace Moss because she was too old in January 2007, and late last year when there were allegations that Moss’s lashes were computer-enhanced in an advertisement for Rimmel’s MagnifEyes mascara.

Rumoured replacement faces (who are all younger than Moss) are TV presenter Alexa Chung, Bond girl Gemma Arterton, as well as Lily Cole, Daisy Lowe and British model of the moment, Agyness Deyn

“She’s (Moss) been amazing for the brand, but they’ve wanted a fresh face, ” a source told The Mirror. “Alexa is one of the hottest faces out there. Not only is she beautiful, she’s savvy, sexy and has bagloads of attitude. ”

But Rimmel were quick to dispel the rumours.

“Kate remains the face of Rimmel London and will continue to appear in campaigns for the foreseeable future, ” sauid Emmanuelle Bonte of Rimmel. “Rimmel London has no plans to replace Kate. We are very happy with the collaboration.”

Even if the rumours aren’t true, Moss’ contract is set to expire at the end of this year.

Elle Macpherson is Revlon’s newest spokesperson

Revlon have signed supermodel and entrepreneur, Elle Macpherson, as their latest spokesperson.

As well as featuring in global advertising campaigns, the mother of two will also be involved with various company sponsored philanthropic activities which includes research, counseling and out-reach programs to support women’s health and participating breast cancer programs.

“Revlon is an iconic brand, bringing high quality products to women around the world and is complementary to my values,” said Elle Macpherson. “I am proud to join Revlon in its celebration of women and in its long term commitment and support for education and research to advance women’s health and particularly to fight women’s cancers.”

Macpherson joins the likes of Halle Berry, Jessica Alba and Beau Garrett as current faces for the beauty giant.

Marimekko for Avon Color Collection

Marimekko designs will be licensing its Unikko pattern (pictured above) to Avon to create a limited edition cosmetics collection.

Evangeline Lilly to be face of Davidoff Cool Water women

Davidoff’s Cool Water for women fragrance has a new face in the form of Lost star, Evangeline Lilly. The print ads and TV commercial will be released in July, with the actress joining the co-star Josh Holloway who is the face of Cool Water Men.

Cool Water Woman “definitely represents the juxtaposition between purity and sensuality, and there’s that sort of fresh newness,” said Lilly. “On top of it, there’s strength that’s underneath it all, that is where sensuality comes from - versus just pure sexiness.”

Though she will act as the worldwide face, the ads featuring the brunette beauty will not run in the US.

Perhaps this new signing will help push the decade old fragrance back into the limelight in a crowded fragrance market.

Emanuel Ungaro partners with Avon to release fragrance set to be modeled by Reese Witherspoon

Avon have just announced that they are collaborating with Emanuel Ungaro Maison to create a women’s and men’s signature fragrances for the French fashion house. This collaboration follows in the footsteps of the successful Christian Lacroix and Avon fragrance partnership late last year.

“We are thrilled to partner with a company that is so deeply connected to women and men all over the world. This is a wonderful opportunity to enable people to experience U by Ungaro fashion and style in a very special way - through fragrance. With these two new fragrances, Avon has really captured the energy, confidence and sophisticated feel of our designs,” said Mounir Moufarrige, President and CEO from Emanuel Ungaro Maison in a statement.

U by Ungaro for Her and U by Ungaro for Him are aiming to capture the design house’s effortless sensuality and bring Avon consumers worldwide a piece of the Parisian soul that is Ungaro. U by Ungaro for Her is a fresh, floral woody scent with sensual top notes of Bergamot Blossom, Wet Freesia and Pepper Blossom mingling with mid notes of Acacia Aura, Living Lotus Flower and Osmanthus. While U by Ungaro for Him is a woody Aromatic watery fragrance that offers an airy freshness and a sophisticated blend of rich, textural woods.

Both fragrances will be launched globally with a US launch slanted for August 2008, and the most exciting thing is that Avon’s Global Ambassador, Reese Witherspoon, will be feature globally in print and TV advertising.

GHD’s Thy Will Be Done commercial banned

GHD, most commonly known for their hair straighteners, have had their latest television commercial in British banned by the Advertising Standards Authority for causing offence with their ‘Thy Will Be Done’ slogan.

The commercials feature women praying for things like ‘May my new curls make her feel choked with jealousy’ and ‘Make him dump her tonight and come home with me’ and finishing with a screen shot of the phrase ‘Thy Will Be Done’ where the letter T resembles a cross.

“We concluded that the eroticised images of the women apparently in prayer, in conjunction with religious symbols such as the votive candle and the rosary beads, the use of the phrase ‘thy will be done’ from the Lord’s Prayer and the image of the letter ‘t’ as the Cross of Jesus, were likely to cause serious offence, particularly to Christians,” the ASA ruled.

According to reports 23 members of the public and the archdeacon of Liverpool complained that the campaign was offensive to Christians.

Flashback: Revlon’s Unforgettable Supermodels

Remember Revlon’s Unforgettable fragrance? Perhaps you still use it now.

Bet you didn’t know for the perfume promotion, their early 1990s television commercial featured some of the biggest supermodels, ever. Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christiansen and Gail O’Neill to be exact.

It’s worth seeing just to see Cindy shake her hips in the video.

Get ready for a Halle Berry fragrance

The trend of celebrities launching fragrances, clothes, and accessories is continuing yet again. Now the one time face of Versace and Revlon, Halle Berry is set to launch a fragrance with beauty giant, Coty.

And not just one fragrance, according to WWD she is set to develop “a fragrance portfolio”.

“Halle is an iconic actress and symbolizes beauty to many generations,” Steve Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing at Coty Beauty US. “She adds another dimension to the celebrity fragrance market. Halle has always been a little more mysterious, not quite as open with her personal life as some other stars. Her fragrances will allow her to present another facet of her personality to her fans.”

For those who want to smell like Berry, the first fragrance is expected to launch in spring 2009.

And this is not the end of the celebrity fragrance deals, with “Mormoris emphasizing that he does not see a slowdown in the celebrity beauty category”.

Gone are the days of fashion labels launching new fragrances, it seems it’s all about the famous faces. No wonder I haven’t brought a new fragrance in years, just new bottles of my all time favorites.
