Anglomania Vivienne Westwood for Melissa – PVC shoes, really?

Mmmm… PVC shoes.

So not cool when they came in the form of Crocs, Anglomania Vivienne Westwood shoes for Melissa? It’s not exactly the strangest of collaborations considering the British brand is anti-conformist, and PVC shoes are definitely not conforming to fashion standards.

Melissa has collaborated with Anglomania to recreate Westwood’s popular Mary-Jane pump in a variety of patent PVC colours, while Melissa’s Ultragirl ballet flat has been given the Westwood touch with tartan or rose patterned inner soles.

No word on how much these will set you back, but how expensive can PVC shoes be?

Ugg boots trap a woman on train tracks

Ugg boots are hailed all over the world as a really warm and comfy shoe, but who would have guessed that it would cost one woman’s life?

A woman was killed this week in Essex in England because one of her Ugg boots got stuck as she was walking across a railway crossing and was hit by a train.

Here’s and shortened version of what the Telegraph had to say of the horrific incident:

Two men, including her boyfriend, made a desperate attempt to pull her free as the train approached but had to jump clear before they got her to safety. The 29-year-old woman, whose first name was Kelly, was trying to get over a crossing to a Tesco superstore when her foot became stuck between wooden slats.

Jonathan Smith, 18, an IT student, described how the woman and her boyfriend tried to cross after the barrier was down at Hythe railway station in Colchester, Essex. “She got her foot stuck. I saw the train coming and I just thought, I’ve got to save her. I went through and grabbed her hand and got her foot out. I had her in my arms, she was safe.”

But he said the woman then tried to get to the other side to join her boyfriend and was hit.

Agyness Deyn the face of Reebok’s Freestyle trainer

Reebok’s Freestyle Cities trainers are being relaunched with a new face, Agyness Deyn. Born in the 1980s the Freestyle Cities collection comprises six different trainers, inspired by what Reebok’s fashion capitals of the world: London, New York, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo and New Delhi.

Each city will reportedly have their own ambassadors with French singer Yelle promoting the Paris trainer and dancer Ai Yasuda promoting the Tokyo trainer, the other ambassadors will be unveiled as each shoe is launched in their city.

The original Freestyle trainer was first launched during the aerobics craze and was relaunched last year with images of Jennifer Beals in Flashdance.

The signing of Deyn has raised a few eyebrows as she was Nike’s guest-of-honour at the launch of the new Nike I:D store recently where she reportedly walked away with a pair of couture trainers.

High tops are back sweetie.

Amsterdam’s 2008 stiletto heel foot race for €10,000

The ‘Stiletto Run’ was held in Amsterdam today down the Dutch city’s most famous fashion street, PC Hooft street.

125 young women entered race each other in the annual race in their stiletto heels - which have to be 9cm or higher - to win €10,000, but it wasn’t a clean race with a lot of pushing and elbowing to get to the end.

“At the start there was a lot of pushing, you really get elbowed over,” said Fauve Stukje, 18, who did not win or place.

The race was won by Tamara Ruben who got to the finishing line after beating everyone along the 350-metre distance.

To get to the finals in Amsterdam, preliminary heats were held in major cities in the Netherlands and Belgium earlier today, but with a therapists told Expatica.com that running on the balls of your feet was not healthy.

“You should only compete if you have spent a year training for the event,” says the therapist.

If I was crazy enough to run the race, I’d wear these bright Scorah Pattullo Victoria Woven Sandals which should hold my feet in. Or I’d just wear them and watch from the sidelines…

Dana Thomas: Louboutin’s are €100 too expensive

In town to promote her book and speak at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Business Seminar, the author of Deluxe: How Luxury Lost its Luster, Dana Thomas, made a few interesting points in an interview with a fashion journalist from The Australian newspaper.

If you haven’t read her book yet, here’s a some points from Thomas that should get you thinking about how much you’re willing to spend on fashion.

About Christian Louboutin’s red soled shoes: “I said, ‘I can’t buy your shoes’ I can’t afford them because I have a moral problem. I can’t allow myself to pay €400 for a pair of shoes when I know they were €300 a year ago and I know nothing has changed but the price. It would be different if there were a fantastic new material, or if I was getting crocodile instead, or if there was gold in the heels, but it is the same patent leather shoes I have always bought but they have gone up in price.”

On not buying Prada since a pair of pants fell apart after just a few wears: “I am not a fool,” she laughs.

Gwen Stefani lands the 52nd cover of V magazine in Louboutin fetish heels

Yes, that strawberry blonde girl on the cover of the next issue of V magazine is Gwen Stefani. Styled by Andrea Leiberman and photographed by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, the cover is just one of 3 covers for V’s March/April 2008 issue.

I love the colours and the fact that Gwen looks like a little girl playing dress up.

But what really takes the cake is that Gwen is wearing a pair of the fetish heels by David Lynch and Christian Louboutin. She’s probably one of the few people who could pull them off…

Sassy Item of the Day: Delias Ombre Peeptoe

Delias Ombre Peeptoe

Love it because: The ombre colours are great. Sure you can argue that it’s very Prada fall 2007/08, but who can actually afford the Prada shoes? These shiny patent leather open toe pumps will give your outfit a nice colour boost without slipping into a pair of overwhelmingly high shoes.

If only I could decide which colour I like best. The blue/green pair reminds me of a summer icy pole, while the purple pair is perfect for evening parties, and the orange ombre pair is just what summer ordered. If only I could justify buying them all…

Price: $39
