Nadia Plesner uses Louis Vuitton-style bag to raise awareness for Darfur

In the name of rasining money to raise the profile of the struggle in Darfur, Nadia Plesner, a painter, worked with Designers for Darfur to creat an image of a Darfur child in the style of Paris Hilton - complete with handbag that looks very similar to a Louis Vuitton monogram bag and a little dog.

Needless to say Louis Vuitton is not happy. They asked Plesner to “cease and desist” in February saying: “We cannot help noticing that the design of [your] product includes the reproduction of a bag infringing on LV’s intellectual property rights.”

But she hasn’t ceased and has since been slapped with a lawsuit.

“She used the accessories to show that this is what the world is paying attention to,” argued Malcolm Harris, creator of Designers for Darfur.

Sassy Item of the Day: Emilio Pucci Sundial canvas beach bag for FTBC

Emilio Pucci Sundail canvas beach bag for FTBC

Love it because: while the Sundail print may not be one of Pucci’s best designs this classic style beach bag does have one major plus going for it. The proceeds of this limited edition canvas beach bag will go towards Fashion Targets Breast Cancer - with the retail price set at over £300, the charity will get a decent chunk.

The launch of this Emilio Pucci yellow beach bag follows in the footsteps of Ralph Lauren’s FTBC polo’s which came in an assortment of colours and modeled on some of IMG’s top models last year.

Sassy Item of the Day: The Balenciaga Moon Bag

Balenciaga black goatskin Moon bag

Love it because: For starters, Gwyneth Paltrow has this beautiful leather bag, which is shaped in a similar style to the classic doctors bag. Made from luxurious goatskin leather it’s the combination of the gold tone hard ware and classic stylings that really bring this bag together into a must-have. It measures in at a nice comfortable 14″x8″x7.

While IT bags are going out of fashion, this is a bag that will last more than a few seasons at least, and Balenciaga have a great record with bags, just look at the continuing success of the Balenciaga Motorcycle / Le Dix bag.

Botkier to design accessories line for Target

Word on the grapevine is that Botkier has signed on to design a collection of accessories for Target’s Go International program.

It’s great news if it’s true, as the brand Monica Botkier founded recently turned five and celebrated with the launch of a footwear collection to partner it’s already popular bags (most well known, the Botkier Bianca bag) and expand into leather accessories.

While the Bianaca bag was copied all over the world by fashion high street stores and counterfeiters in it’s hey day, it’s still a popular must have item, so hopefully the Botkier for Target collection will include something similar.

Perhaps something like the jersey Mulberry Roxanne bag for Gap RED.

Stay tuned for more details!

Hayden Panettiere’s new campaign for Dooney & Bourke

Last year Hayden Panettiere designed the Hayden bag for Dooney & Bourke. The red, black, and brown version of the bag launched in December 2007, and now just in time for spring, the Hayden bag is now available in metallic gold and silver (RRP$500), with Hayden showing off the patent leather medium Chiara bag (RRP$345).

Good thing Heroes hasn’t started filming yet - posing for photoshoots, filming a movie, preparing for the launch of her new album… Hayden is one busy girl.

Chanel’s East-West bag, modeled by Christy Turlington

We told you in January that Christy Turlington was the face of Chanel’s accessories campaign as photographed by Karl Lagerfeld this spring 2008 - complete with German/milk maid looking plaits in her hair. Well here’s one image we didn’t show you at the time - Ms Turlington with the Chanel East-West Bag.

The chic sister to the Chanel 2.55, it features quilted leather, Chanel’s signature chain strap, twist clasp, seam detail on the flap and finished with white metal . It’s available in colour combinations: white with black, black with white, burgundy with ivory and brown with ivory.

It will be available at Chanel boutiques this month.

Sassy Item of the Day: Chloe Saskia bag

The Chloe Saskia bag

Love it because: Chloe hasn’t designed a must have bag since, arguably, the Chloe Bay bag, but I think they’re back on track with the Chloe Saskia bag.

Already available as a tote, small tote, accordion tote, satchel, bowler and square tote, the Saskia mixes every day versatility with vintage appeal. Bringing together the best of a few must-have bags into one alluring tote. The front pockets hark towards the appeal of the Mulberry Roxanne, while the subtle curves gives it a nice bohemian attitude, off set with its boxy shape topped with a glossy appeal in the Perspex handle, shoulder strap and brass Chloe tag.

It’s currently available in black, tan, turquoise, white, teal, yellow, red and taupe.

Perhaps it’s time to upgrade my day bags (a Mulberry Brooke and a Chloe Edith if you must ask) to a Chloe Saskia… ;)

Price: it varies, on average it will set you back about $2,000

Botkier to launch shoes as brand turns five

The home of the Bianca bag, Botkier, turns five this year and they’re celebrating by launching a collection of stylish but also comfortable footwear.

“This seemed like the perfect fit for us as we’re embarking on our fifth year in 2008,” explained Monica Botkier. “We felt like we created such a niche in handbag market, and we thought we’d do the same thing for the shoe market,” she continued. “There are the Louboutins, and the lower-range shoes, but you really can’t find a pair of great booties for under $500.”

Inspired by the idea of a Malibu afternoon, the shoe collection includes sandals, ballet flats, hammered ring stilettos, and peep-toe mod ankle booties. All the shoes are made in Italy and priced between $200 - $500.

Pictured above: the Botkier Cleo, Sofia, Sloane. Check out more from the collection at Shopbop.com and Botkier.com.
