Giorgio Armani is a patron of the Sydney Theatre Company

Giorgia Armani’s Australian friends (ie. celebrities) have done quite well to garner support from him in the last year or so. It started with Russell Crowe getting the Italian designer to design uniforms for his rugby league team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs, now Cate Blanchett has asked her friend to give a one-time donation to the Sydney Theatre Company which she is a co-artistic director of.

The Daily reports that Armani has also been named a patron of the STC, and his donation “represents one of the largest ever individual financial gifts to a theatre company in Australia.”

“Mr. Armani is one of the most meticulous, exacting, creative individuals we have had the pleasure to encounter,” Blanchett said in a statement. “The prospect of the STC embarking upon a creative relationship with an artist of Mr. Armani’s experience and caliber is not only an inspiring but expansive one.”

The most exciting new is that the designer himself will be making his first trip to Australia next month to be the guest of honor at a private dinner hosted by Blanchett, her husband and the outgoing director, Robyn Nevin.

Right, how do I get myself invited to that dinner… or where can I ‘run into’ Mr Armani when he’s in town. Suggestions are always welcome!
