The 59th Emmy Awards red carpet

Yesterday was the Emmy Awards, celebrating the best of the best in television, but the best of the best didn’t quite surface on the red carpet. Celebrity after celebrity seemed to walk down the red carpet in one strapless dress after another, just in varying shades and lengths of their fish tails and trains. Perhaps my expectations were a little higher due to some of the amazing gowns on the New York Fashion Week S/S 2008 runway, but there was nothing that took my breathe away.

I loved Marcia Cross’s Georges Chakra gown that complimented her fair skin and scarlett hair, Becki Newton (who plays Amanda on Ugly Betty) wore my favourite of the night – a gorgeous strapless gown with delicate scalloped edge tiers. Heidi Klum wore a plum coloured Dior by John Galliano gown that accentuated her gorgeous body in a way that only custom made gowns can. The dress was pleated, tucked and twisted around Heidi, who accessorized to perfection with enough bling to finance a third world country. The only thing that surprised me about Heidi’s dress was that she didn’t choose a Michael Kors dress.

While her make up and skin glowed on the red carpet, I thought Hayden Panettiere’s Marc Bouwer dress had a little too much fabric attached to the cute little ruched bust, weighing down the little actress. It was good to see that Debra Messing wore a Ralph Lauren dress hot off the New York runway, though it seemed a little flat and lacking in the harsh light of day, Christina Aguilera wore a gown that did wonders hiding the pregnant belly, while Mariska Hargitay in Zac Posen, Vanessa Williams and Jennifer Morrison (not pictured) in Elie Saab, America Ferrer in Monique Lhuillier, and Eva Longoria in Kaufman Franco were notable red carpet do’s.
