Ashley Judd to design clothing collection with Goody’s

Following in the footsteps of Steve & Barry’s who’s Bitten collection with Sarah Jessica Parker was very popular for it’s very cheaply priced pieces, American retailer Goody’s have announced that they are launching a fashion line with Ashley Judd this fall “boasting of style and substance.”

And it’s not just one new line, there will be three introduced into Goody’s stores to be called – AJ(TM), Love Ashley(TM) and Ashley Judd(TM).

“I’m thrilled to be involved in a clothing line that provides simple, lovely solutions for women’s wardrobes,” said Ashley Judd in a statement. “I’ve always loved items that you can throw on easily and know that you’ll feel and look good. This line does just that, while keeping with the best of current styles and trends.”

According to the press release the labels will feature stylish options for women looking for fashions with attention to detail, including intricate stitching and trims, luxurious fabrics, fit and femininity. The collections will also feature an extensive denim line featuring Ashley Judd’s signature stitching on the back pockets and floral details on the inside waistband, organic and knit tees and sweaters, and career casual coordinates ranging from blazers, blouses and skirts to cardigan sets and trousers.

Ashley apparently played an integral role in the planning and development of the line, leading shopping trips with designers so they could understand her style, brainstorming ideas and editing the line.

“We are excited about Ashley’s new designs and the relationship we are establishing with her,” said Mary Kwan, president and chief merchandising officer of Goody’s Family Clothing. “Ashley can relate to our customers and their fashion needs through her Southern roots and simple elegant style. Her passion and admiration for women is remarkable and it’s fantastic to have her as our partner.”

The Ashley Judd collections will be available in Goody’s 380 stores this fall, check out the Goody’s website for your local stores.

No photos of the collection have been released yet, but I have a sneaking suspicsions that this may not be the last celebrity collection we see – with Sarah Jessica Parker and Amanda Bynes designing collections for Steve & Barry’s, Kate Moss for Topshop… it’s the begining of a new wave of fast fashion.

This just seems crazy to me. I could understand the SJP one as she is a “fashion icon” due to her role in SATC. But Ashley Judd? I mean, the woman has style, but there is nothing that sets her apart from the crowd (IMHO). And THREE lines? Overkill!

  • Wendy says:

Maybe Kate misunderstood the concept. It’s seems to me that although SJP may have fashion sense, she doesn’t portray the average working woman whereas AJ does. I think the clothing line should be a great success and hopefully it will cater to women who work in “the real world” and not in TV land. Maybe someday when Kate gets a job she’ll understand.

Wendy was that comment directed at me? You’re taking my comments a little personally aren’t you? Are you a marketing manager for this line or have some personal investment in it?

And FYI, I am an successful engineer (yes, I have a job) with a degree in Chemical Engineering, another in Mathematics and a Master in Engineering Management. And no, I still don’t understand.

  • Wendy says:

Congratulation on all your achievements. I would just like to see clothes that cater to the average women. Do you consider yourself an average working women? Because it doesn’t sound as if you are. If AJ would like to put out 16 lines of clothing, then I say GOOD FOR HER!!

  • Johnny says:

I’m sorry, I have to agree with Wendy. It would be nice to see clothing that caters to an average not an above average woman. Why should women sacrifice fashion for value? Value?…Kate, this is where your math degree would come in handy.

  • kate says:

I cannot render how AJ putting out a fashion line necessarily represents value? There are plenty of beautiful and reasonably priced clothes that do not have ANY Hollywood celebrities backing them.

Do not kid yourself; Judd may be far from your Paris Hiltons of the world in terms of celebrity, but she is still a highly successful Hollywood actress. Yes, she is more “normal” and more like us, but she still earns much more money than any of us and very likely buys top end fashion herself.

Any smart and stylish woman can pull together a nice, affordable outfit without needing to buy from a collection endorsed or created by a celebrity. If you admire AJ’s style, then note down the particular items she wears and look for your own reasonably priced versions.

  • Sandy says:

I look forward to AJ’s new lines. I hope to see a larger selection of ladies clothing that covers more of a modest approche,or down to earth people. Hopefully AJ and Goody’s will be able to do this for the not so ” Jet Set”. Bring it on!

  • Wendy says:

Yes, the new line is already out and looks GREAT!! I’ve already purchased a few pieces. They fit and feel wonderful. I think she’s made a BIG HIT!!

  • Donna says:

I am sitting here in AJ jeans and top. Ashley Judd has hit the nail on the head with her new clothing line. I know that everyone is different, but when she designed this line, she had me and ladies like me in mind. I love everything in the line. They are comfy, stylish, and very feminine. I love that. I love jeans, but I don’t want to look like a boy. I have several pieces of her design and love every one of them…bring on more!!

  • Wanda Edgar says:

Ipurchased 3 different pairs of jeans, all of which the zippers were of very poor quality. I alter clothes for a small high end clothing store,so I am a little knowledgable of construction of clothes. These were purchased at Goody’s which is going out of business at this time, so I couldn’t return them. One pair of the jeans was taken back twice for the same zipper problem, so I had to replace the zipper in them. The quality of the zippers need to be checked. I had washed the jeans once and on the first time I wore them that the zippers came apart. Thank you, Wanda Edgar

  • BD says:

where in the world will I be able to get Ashley Judd Jeans after Goody’s closes??? I really like the way they fit.

  • Jeannie says:

I Love the Ashley Judd line of clothes and think the way they look and fit is great, now that Goody’s is closing will she be selling her line of clothes in another store and if so Where??

  • Tina says:

Hello, I live in Mississippi and Goody’s is going out of business and I just wanted to know if there was some place else where we could get your clothing.

    Thanks so much

  • Tina S. says:

Great question I was also wondering the same thing. I love how the jeans fit and to top it off I wear 3 sizes smaller in her jeans. They make a woman feel and look great.

  • Renee T. says:

I have found a line of clothes that I feel comfortable in…But Goody’s has closed. Where and when will I ever find Ashley Judd’s collection again?

  • Terry S. says:

Has anyone found out where her clothing is going to yet?

  • Lisa says:

I too love the jeans. I’ve looked all over the internet to find someone else carring the brand. I hope someone picks her up. Anyone know anything else???

  • Lesly says:

OK already!!! Is there anyone with any info on where to get this line of jeans? Will you please post it so all of the women that really are in love with the jeans can know what is going on? I only found these jeans before Christmas and have 4 pair, but I would like a few more because they are the only ones that I want my bum in from now on.

  • Heather says:

I know we all love her jeans and now we can’t find any replacements. I had also bought a pair of khakis that I loved. Just be cause Goody’s went out doesn’t mean her clothes should. I mean Dockers didnt’!

  • Diana says:

I bought two pair of her jeans over two years ago and never in my 28 years of living have I had a pair of jeans fit like these have and last this long! I thought it was just my local goodys that closed and was looking online to found some more somewhere, ANYWHERE! Anybody know anything? I’m desperate to keep wearing these and only these….

  • Misty Workman says:

My local store “Goodys” closed. Is this clothing line sold through any other retailer besides Goodys? I thought Goodys closed across the country?

  • Pam Prit says:

Has anyone had any luck finding the ashley jeans, I also love them
