Drew Barrymore for Gucci Fine Jewelry

Hot on the heels of modeling for Giles Deacon (ok, Giles Deacon for New Look) and posing as the newest face for Covergirl, Drew Barrymore has been tapped by Gucci to feature in their fine jewelry line.

“Drew brought wonderful energy and excitement to this project. She is such a strong and confident woman, but her humor and sensitivity made her completely disarming,” said Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, who was directly involved in everything from the makeup to the backdrop setting.

The stunning campaign was shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin in a Paris studio. Watch out for these images in your September high fashion magazines.

According to the WWD, fine jewelry is a fast-growing category for Gucci, one that accounted for 4.5 percent of the company’s revenues of 2.1 billion euros, or $2.82 billion, last year.

Inspired by? Shiny black and red studded bags

We’re testing your designer bag knowledge at SASSYBELLA.com

You all have been so good with our ‘Inspired by’ features that we’re making it a little harder this time. Can you tell me what designer bag inspired these studded faux patent leather bags? The whole giant studs on bags was made popular when a up and coming British designer created some bags for another British brand’s Fall 2006/2007 collection.

1. What is name of the (real) bag and it’s designers’ name?

2. For extra points, can you tell me what are the differences?

P.S. If designer inspired bags are your thing, both the red and black bags are $39.99 at AccessoryBug.com

Australian Fashion Week not showing in Melbourne this October

The Australian Fashion Week Transseasonal shows scheduled for October have been moved interstate to Sydney, home of the Spring Summer shows.

“This decision has been made following detailed discussions with the industry, Rousemount Australian Fashion Week partners and also internally with IMG’s global offices,” said Simon P. Lock, IMG Fashion Asia Pacific’s managing director. “The overwhelming view is that, for the future growth and development of the event and the Asia Pacific industry as a whole, the Transeasonal Collections should move to Sydney.”

The transseasonal shows are scheduled to run from October 9 to 11, at the location where the Spring summer shows were held this May - at Sydney’s International Passenger’s terminal.

P.S. For everyone who’s wondering why the ‘Fall/Winter’ shows are called ‘Transseasonal’, it is because winter in Australia isn’t as freezing as it gets in other parts of the world, so many Australian’s don’t respond as well to it.

No doubt this moves comes as the Transseasonal collections don’t have as many designers or media attending. Though Toni Maticevski did show last year in Melbourne, albeit to a smaller audience than usual.

D&G Fall 2007/08 ad campaign

Images from the advertising campaign for D&G’s Fall 2007/08 shot by Mario Testino. Looks like the boys at Dolce & Gabbana are sticking to their usual advertising concept of a lot of models wearing a lot of beautiful clothes, in a lot of different shots.

This gold background campaign features the following models: Erin Heatherton, Iekeliene Stange, Johanna Jonsson, Milagros Schmoll, Rachel Clark, Eddie Klint, Eugen Bauder, Guy Robinson, Hampus Ahlquist, and Malte Heininger.

The first Kate Winslet for Tresor ads revealed!

We mentioned a few months ago that Kate Winslet had signed on to be the new face of Lancome’s iconic Tresor fragrance, and here’s the first picture.

Doesn’t she look beautiful? Kate is such a classic beauty. It almost makes me want to buy the fragrance. Shame the smell doesn’t do anything for me.

What do you think of the ad?

Peta launches anti fur campaign against Burberry (with the help of Stella McCartney)

PETA have planned a protest outside of a Burberry store in North Carolina in the USA today. They will to wear nothing but splatters of fake blood and a banner that mimics Burberry’s signature pattern and reads, “When Plaid Goes Bad”.

Apparently PETA showed Burberry executives video footage of how animals caught in traps often resort to chewing off their own legs in order to escape and how animals on fur farms are gassed, electrocuted, or have their necks broken. But because Burberry have continued to sell fur, they’re going to campaign in front of their store in hope they will listen this way.

“I’ll gladly bare my skin if it will help save animals’ skins,” says PETA’s Peggy Chung. “Even in the 21st century - with so many stylish, comfortable alternatives to fur available — Burberry is supporting one of the most hideous industries on the planet.”

The protest today will also include extra PETA members handing out leaflets and show PETA’s fur-farm video narrated by Stella McCartney which shows how countless animals suffer and die to become part of a Burberry coat. This is not the first time PETA have protested outside a Burberry store, they launched a campaign outside a London Burberry store in November last year (pictured above), doing exactly what they’re planning to do in NC.

Sasha Pivovarova scores the Vogue UK September 2007 cover

Gemma Ward fans won’t be too happy to hear that the Aussie model’s look-a-like, Sasha Pivovarova, has scored the September 2007 UK Vogue cover. Rumours were flying that that Gemma had scored the cover.

See some of the photoshoot in New York’s Meatpacking District in CNN World’s video (below) about some of up and coming Russian models. Apparently Sasha is an in-demand model that has such an individual look and personality that it shot her to stardom.

A peak at Marc Jacobs Fall 2007 ads

The consensus was that the Marc Jacobs Fall 2007 ads followed the aesthetics that his Fall collection had, even if the ads are a little unorthodox. But at the end of the day, this is Marc Jacobs we’re talking about. He’s fabulously unorthodox and a trendsetter. And his ads are no different - this a man who had Dakota Fanning in his Spring Summer 2007 ads.

Here’s two shots of the campaign shot by Juergen Teller, featuring Harje Andesen, Alyona Osmanova, and Olga Sherer in one shot, and Cicely Telman in another. Rumour has it that there are 17 models featuring in the full range of ads.

Jimmy Choo’s Fall 2007 ad campaign

Gosh is there any theme to these pictures? The Jimmy Choo Fall 2007 advertising campaign modeled by Heather Marks is a little bit of a let down. The picture on the far right is probably the most eye catching, and just get progressively worse as you move left.

What do you think?

Actually, what was Tamara Mellon and Jimmy Choo thinking?
