New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted this year’s Costume Institute Gala in honor of Paul Poiret on Monday night.
Poiret, a pre-World War II fashion designer was the first to use draping in dressmaking and is credited with freeing woman from the corset and launching the suspender belt, flesh-colored stockings, the sack dress and culottes.
The event was attended by the biggest and brightest names in fashion and co-hosted by Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour, Balenciaga’s Nicolas Ghesquière, and Cate Blanchett.
– I loved the dresses Blanchett, Lucy Liu, Mary-Kate Olsen and Jennifer Garner wore – for no particular reason. They were just works of art and kudos for the women for pulling it off reasonably well.
