The Prada phone has been unveiled

The Apple iPhone just launched, and while it might interest some of the fashion crowd, the Prada LG phone will be the one that has them all lining up outside stores.

It will be the worlds first completely touch-screen phone, and comes in a glossy black colour and only 12mm thick!

“The two companies worked together to develop one of the most beautifully stylish handsets the market has ever seen,” said LG president and ceo Scott Ahn.

“We were looking at a breakthrough in design,” said president and CEO of Prada, Patrizio Bertilli. “We are not branding an existing product, rather Miuccia (Prada) and I have been working with LG to give this new phone a very strong character and unique style.”

Lindsay, Keira and Jen Garner with their Chloe Bay bag’s

I might have to rethink by plan to track down and purchase a Chloe Bay bag. I have seen one too many celebrities carrying it.

The one who will make it reach its overexposed stage is the currently-in-rehab celeb, Lindsay Lohan (who’s also wearing her knickers outside her pants). But it has also been seen toted around in black and orange by Jennifer Garner and Keira Knightley

Maybe I should go through my bag buying check list again… perhaps I only wanted it because I suspected it would be an it bag?

Would you still buy the Chloe Bay bag even though its been seen on the arm of the likes of Kylie Minogue and the starlets I named above?

Yes, big bags are bad, but we love them anyway - just ask the Olsen’s

Yes, big bags are bad, but we love them anyway – just ask the Olsen’s

There have been so many reports about how big bags are health risks – as if we couldn’t tell since we’re the ones carrying them.

“The problem with carrying a heavy bag is that while it may not cause you an injury at the time you carry it, over time it has a cummulative effect, and we’re certainly seeing more instances of back pain triggered as a result,” says Tim Hutchful of the British Chiropractic Association.

“The worst case scenario is that you injure your neck by stretching the nerves. But carrying a heavy bag over one shoulder also causes you to totally shift your body’s stance as you hike the shoulder up and, over time, this can shorten the muscles resulting in a twisted or lop-sided body position, that in turn can lead to back pain.”

But just try telling that to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. They love their big bags, and walking through the airport on the way to Sundance, they’re carrying gigantic ones.

Just check out that over sized Hermes Birkin Ashley is carrying. You could probably fit her in there.

New Zealand designers get in on the fast fashion boat with Glassons

Never thought you would own a Karen Walker top that cost you less than $30? Well thanks to the fast fashion store Glassons, you can buy tees designer by some of New Zealand’s finest designers - or New Zealand’s ‘A Team’ fashion designers (according to Glassons).

According the RunwayReporter:

The designer line-up for 2007 includes Karen Walker, Zambesi, Trelise Cooper, Kate Sylvester and newbies Ruby and Cybèle.

Cybèle’s design uses a chain link in a heart formation, which is also a key motif in the labels winter 2007 collection. The chain links represent strength, and refer to the idea of an armored breast plate. Ruby’s graphic includes two shooting guns – “they symbolise shooting away the sadness associated with cancer,” says Ruby designer Elizabeth Shand.

The Karen Walker tees are a hark back to her extremely popular Young Eagar and Willing collection in 2003 which featured the love hearts printed on everything from bags, hats, tops, and skirts. The other designers like Kate Sylvester, Trelise Cooper and Zambesi went for more graphic animal prints.

The 2007 campaign is themed ‘Kiss Off’ for a”an affirming and positive reinforcement for breast cancer support”.

And if you want to get your tshirt signed, the designers themselves will be in the Glassons flagship store to to unveil their designs and sign t-shirts for the public. I know where I want to be at 9am – the Glassons Queen Street store.

I wonder if a trip to New Zealand is viable…

Watch out for Mulberry’s Giles Deacon collaboration this Spring

We’ve all heard about and lusted after the Mulberry Roxanne, then it was followed by the Mulberry Emmy and then the Bayswater (which was toted around by Mischa Barton for a while).

Mulberry fan’s have something to look forward to this Northern spring. Mulberry’s collaboration with Giles Deacon (who just happens to be a good friend of Mulberry’s Stuart Vevers) is due to hit stores soon.

Deacon’s own Spring Summer 07 line was S&M themed with spiky stilettos, patent bags loaded with studs accessorizing his beautiful dresses. So no doubt he will be adding a bit of punk to the classic English Mulberry handbags.

And in the Fall we can look forward to Mulberry’s capsule collection with artist Julie Verhoeven that will be unveiled at Paris Fashion week

Another important thing to not is Giles Deacon’s ‘Gold Collection’ for New Look is due to hit stores soon too. Drew Barrymore is lined up to model the capsule collection that features signature prints on jackets, shoes, dresses and accessories.

Hope you girls in the UK shop it up for me in New Look!

Victoria Beckham may not be so frivolous after all

The women also known as Posh Spice tends to spend up big when shopping, even more so now that David Beckham has signed his very lucrative deal with a LA soccer team.

But all the money in the world hasn’t seemed to affected Victoria Beckham’s views on joining things where you have to donate money. (So we can assume she probably won’t be signing up to be a Hillsong member any time soon either)

According to The Sun, a source said, “Tom spoke to David for hours about Scientology. He feels it could help to lift him out of the blues over his football career. But Victoria is having none of it. She can’t see the point of joining something like that where you have to donate money.”

Meanwhile she has been snapped house and school hunting in LA, as well as catching up with the Cruise’s for dinner at The Ivy.

Also as a side note, did you know David is getting ready to make his first film? Apparently he’s going to be in Goal 3 which will start shooting in the northern summer. Who know there was a Goal 2!!

But David hopes the series will go down in history, saying “It’s nerve-wracking but I’m sure these films will go down in history.

So what do you think about the Beckham’s joining Scientology?

I hope they don’t, just because that “religion” doesn’t need more publicity.

How to convince yourself you do not need another designer bag

I’ve gone through a few designer bags in the last few years.

It all started with a Louis Vuitton Monogram Pouchette, gifted to me by my darling Aunt in the late 90s. Then it moved on to a Burberry obsession a year after that and then it was the beginning of the Luella-loving era. With a pink Luella Gisele, a ivory Chloe Paddington, a black Luella Stevie, then my current bag of the moment a whiskey Chloe Edith.

And to think it all started with a small LV Monogram Pouchette.

I could even escalate my obsession a bit more… because I am currently lusting after a few more bags, namely the YSL Muse, the Mulberry Roxanne and the Chloe Bay.

But I need to talk myself out of this “need” for a new designer bag, because let’s face it; the Chloe Edith is only about 3 months young. So I guess I should start my 4 step program to get out of my ‘must buy’ rut.

Helen’s 4 step program to talk yourself out of buying a new designer bag

1. If Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton or Nicole Richie is snapped carrying it…
I need to wipe it off my ‘must have’ list quick smart. I don’t want to run the risk of the bag (a) hitting the over-rated ranks, (2) being copied, or (3) just seen to death. For the price I’m willing to pay, I want a bag that people will adore but not be sick of looking at.

2. Will get be “so last season” in 3 months?
Brands are releasing designer bags in different colours, leathers, and materials. When it starts to come in more than 2 different styles (think of the Chloe Paddington and the Paddington satchel, Paddington hobo, mini Paddington, Paddington clutch, and Paddington shopper to name just a few) it could be time to pick another bag. As they say, too many cooks in the kitchen is never a good thing. Or something like that.

3. Monitor eBay listings and see how hot they are.
If there are too many listings someone must be making copies of it already. Ask yourself if you really want the bag after all…

4. What else can you buy?
If you’re willing to spend over US$1,000 on a bag, you could just as well pay for a vacation somewhere fabulous? Airfares are really cheap these days and wouldn’t it be nice to go on a weekend trip instead?

Well I hope this helps someone out there, because I think I want a Chloe Bay bag in tan/caramel. Now who do I know will be in Europe soon…

This post was inspired by How To Girl, a hilarious satirical blog.

Sping 2007 campaigns: Lindsay for Miu Miu, Jamie and Natalia for Calvin Klein

We’re in the midst of watching picture perfect men strut down the catwalk of Milan for men’s fashion week. But when pictures of the Miu Miu and Calvin Klein campaign rolled in, we couldn’t help but stare at how much Lindsay Lohan had been airbrushed for the Miu Miu campaign (pictured above)!

With her skin deathly pale and the striking colours of the clothes and the hair, you can barely tell it’s Lindsay. Probably for the best. It’s also interesting to see Lindsay modeling the white Miu Miu Coffer bag, and was recently snapped toting it around with it as well.

What do you think of the Lindsay Miu Miu campaign?

The other campaign to roll in was the Calvin Klein Sping campaign, featuring long time CK girl, Natalia Vodianova and British musician Jamie Burke.

It was Jamie’s first-ever ad campaign and it was his sense of style and rocker looks that drew campaign creative director, Fabien Baron to him. “You look at him and can’t help but conjure the image of icons like Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger,” he said.

There is so much interesting news in the fashion related world of late. With the Golden Globes just on, here’s something different to read about – rather than who wore what the best and the worst.
