It’s Target Australia’s turn to do designer collaborations

They’re calling it Designers for Target, and have recruited Australian fashion designers – Alice McCall, Tina Kalivas and TL Wood to create several outfits for the retail giant.

All three designers focused mainly on dresses for summer and other pretty pieces that are as stylish as their main collections, but sell for a fraction of the cost.

Most popular among the Australian fashionistas will be the Alice McCall for Target pieces, though I would side towards the Tina Kalivas for Target collection.

It is not the first time that Australian designers have done special collections for chain stores. Tina Kalivas has designed uniforms for the Sydney Hilton hotel, and says the Target deal will take her designs “to the masses”.

“At the end of my usual design process, it makes me sad only a few people will get to enjoy it (because of the price point),” Kalivas said.

Her Target range includes three dresses, two tops and a skirt and will sell from $70.

The Designers for Target collection comes hot on the heels of the Kit Willow for Portmans collections, and will be followed by Metalicus for Sportsgirl, by the Melbourne company which is known for its stretchy basics.

In previous years, Sportsgirl has done lines by Flamingo Sands and Belinda Fairbanks, while Tina Kalivas has previously designed a collection for Kookai.

Hmmm…. I don’t know if I like those difussion lines. What a let down after the Kit Willow for Portmans pieces which at least looked like she spent more than 10 seconds working on. These just look cheap.

Mass produced designer pieces are not exclusive enough to be special
