Fosters (Beer) Australian Fashion Week

Well sort of. You see Fosters is such a major liquor conglomerate, they can afford to be the official major sponsor of Australian Fashion Week – which parted ways with Mercedes at the end of the Spring Fashion Week in May after a 11 year partnership.

But before you think that Australian’s Fashion Week just got more Australian, it will be know as Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

A rose by any other name I guess?

Though according to the SMH, some industry insiders weren’t entirely impressed with the announcement.

“God - it’s a big fall from Mercedes” said one publicist.

“It’s a very strange alignment, especially when you think of the previous alcohol sponsors like Moet, Finlandia, Perrier Jouet” said Moet spruiker Mark Patrick. “To suddenly go to a mass market still and sparkling wine company seems a very odd mix. I think it makes the alignment with Fashion Week quite bizarre. If I was the marketing director of one of the prestige fashion houses I would not align myself with a mass market brand”.

“Oh that’s glamorous” sniffed designer Alex Perry. “But look it’s sponsorship, it doesn’t worry me. If they’re kicking in the bucks, obviously they have some kind of interest in Australian fashion, but it’s just not Mercedes-Benz”.

Nonetheless the show will go one, Australian Fashion Week Autumn/Winter (or ‘transeasonal’ as they like to call it now) 2007 is just a mere week away – starting on September 4 at the St Kilda Sea Baths in Melbourne.

I wonder who’s showing… no designer list, or official face has been unveiled yet.

How many Calvin Klein Jeans are in this ball?

In an exhibition themed ‘Fashion Slave’ in Xiamen, China, you have the chance to guess how many pairs of Calvin Klein Jeans are in this ball.

Guess it right and you could win 5,000 yuan (US$625). Shame you don’t get the jeans!

The whole ball would be worth more than US$625… retail price anyway.

The Duffs in Diane von Furstenberg

I really don’t think I like Haley Duff’s style. It’s not distinct or anything special… and her latest choice – a Diane von Furstenberg Isis Knit Dress – really doesn’t suit her. She is trying, but she can’t pull off the boldness of the dress at all.

While her sister is looking awkward in her DVF dress, Hilary Duff has a super cute hat on. Quite like one I found on the Jersey Captain Hat & Bow I found on ASOS. Paired with a plain coloured mini dress and tights it would be the perfect mod look.

What do you think? Who’s the best dressed Duff?

Eau De Lindsay – the hungover Lohan scent?

Want to smell like the morning after? Because if the Lindsay Lohan started rumours are true then she could be entering the fragrance game.

According to the WWD, Lindsay was at “home” (also known as the Chateau Marmont) attending a party for shoe designer Brian Atwood and she revealed she is in talks with Coty (who also have fragrance licenses with Jennifer Lopez, Victoria and David Beckham, and Sarah Jessica Parker) to do her own fragrance.

She also added that the deal had not been inked. Executives at Coty declined to confirm or deny Lindsay’s claim.

I’d take this rumour with a grain of salt. After all We must remember that other rumour Lindsay herself started early this year about being the face of the Spring 2006 Chanel campaign. Of course a few weeks later Karl Largerfeld announce the freckled star was too immature to be the face of Chanel.

More than a handful of Chanel devotees breathed a sigh of relief.

Nina Ricci designer Lars Nilsson quits

Nina Ricci’s talented designer, Lars Nilsson (pictured left with Kate Beckinsale) , has left the fashion house for “personal reasons” after returning to Sweden to collect the Golden Button award for fashion.

After three years (or five seasons) with the label, Nilsson is leaving to “pursue other things.” But the departure is a amicable one with Mario Grauso, president of its parent company Puig Fashion Group admitted it would miss Nilsson. “We’re sad to lose him. He’s a very talented young man and we really enjoyed working with him. We really wish him well.”

The pre-spring collection will be Nilsson’s last for Nina Ricci, while according to WWD, the departure of Nilsson means that Nina Ricci will not put on a show at Paris Fashion Week in October - though the design team he leaves behind will present a spring/summer 2007 collection to buyers and press.

It is rumoured that Olivier Theyskens will replace him at Nina Ricci as Creative Director after the Belgium designer found himself jobless when Rochas closed.

No word on what Nilsson will be doing now, but with a resume that includes positions at Bill Blass, Christian Dior and Christian Lacroix, he shouldn’t have a problem finding a new job – after all there is more than a few positions still unaccounted for – like the one at Chloe.

Rachel Zoe adds Maria Sharapova to her client list that carries her Leiber bags

With the US Open looming, Maria Sharapova is keeping her tennis outfit top secret, telling reporters at a Tag Heuer launch at Bloomingdales, New York, that “It’s a surprise”.

Wearing a black See by Chloe minidress and red pumps she was definitely channeling her stylist, Rachel Zoe’s, other clients. She also added that she has “separate outfit[s] for my day and night games.”

In other related news, have you noticed the clutches that Mischa Barton and Nicole Ritchie have been carrying at red carpet events?

Well remember that Rachel Zoe had teamed up with Judith Leiber to design two red carpet-worthy bags? They have surfaced now… and naturally cost through the roof with the prices ranging from $2,000 to $10,000 (and that’s in US dollars).

The “Cleopatra” clutch bag and “Medusa” soft hobo bag, will be made from a variety of materials, from alligator to metallic suede – which also means a myriad of colours. Each bag will feature customized snake hardware, that the Los Angeles Times says was inspired by an old French doorknocker.

Though it seems to resembles the snake hardware on a Christian Louboutin satin shoe.

Channel the starlets at the 2006 Teen Choice Awards

The Teen Choice Awards this year actually had more than a handful of stylish starlets. My favourite four was Zooey Deschanel, Rachel Bilson, with Ashley Olsen, Sophia Bush and Mischa Barton coming in a third, fourth and fifth.

The quirky Mod look that Zooey was channeling was pulled off without a hitch, paired with black opaque tights, the red mini dress and floppy bow took my breathe away.

Rachel Bilson vamped it up a bit with dark eye liner and a sexy black dress and flowing locks.

Channel your (well my) favourite looks of the night below and after the fold.

Charlize Theorn always looks stunning on every red carpet she steps out on (well with the exception of this years Oscars).

It was no except when she stepped on to the red carpet at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on Saturday. The vintage inspired lace mini dress with boat neck suited her down to the T.
