Pulling em up high – Keira Knightley and Christina Aguilera sport sassy high-waisted pants

High-waisted pants are a fashion classic that screen legend Katherine Hepburn could pull off fashionably well in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.

For a more modern look side towards the skinny legs or straight legged high waisted pants. Keep the wide-legged high-waisted pants for days when you are wearing sky high heels.

Since they hit the catwalk a few years ago, I didn’t think they could infiltrate mainstream dressing. But part of me is glad I was wrong, because I love seeing how some stylish people pull it off.

Christina Aguilera recently slipped on a pair and still managed to look stunningly sexy, while Keira Knightley wore them just a few days ago and looked very sassy and stylish.

Keep the top half of your outfit sleek and simple, patterns and too much detailing is not a good look with the almost-empire fit of high-waist pants!

Mischa Barton loves her Scanlan & Theodore dress

Looks like Mischa’s paid-for promotional trip to Australia has paid off for Australian designers, Scanlan & Theodore.

After wearing a three toned Scanlan & Theodore bubble skirted dress to the David Jones Spring/Summer Launch press conferernce at August 8 in Sydney, she obviously liked the dress enough to pick it up in white as well - she was snapped wearing it again a few nights ago while out with Nicole Richie and Cisco Alder.

I wonder if she liked the dress enough to remember who the designer is

Vogue: the world’s most famous fashion magazine - the book, and Anna Wintour gives her tips on who will win the US Open

What does Anna Wintour know about the US Open? Well she knows how to fall off her chair (circa US Open last year), and this year she’s in the Roger Federer support camp as she perches in her VIP box sporting her trademark bob and dark glasses.

NewsDay reports that she “shouted out Federer’s name as her favorite and then implied no others were worthy of consideration by giving a dismissive flick of her hand.”

Should we mention that this yearly jaunt over to Flushing Meadows gives Anna’s Vogue staffers a break from her in the Vogue office?

Speaking of the Vogue office, mark October 10th on your calendar and add this book to your Christmas wish list - “In Vogue: The Illustrated History of the World’s Most Famous Fashion Magazine”.

According to the WWD it “is a 440-page tome that details the magazine’s 115 year history; its notable contributors, including editors, photographers and fashion designers, and its influence on culture.”

Alberto Oliva and Norberto Angeletti were given unprecedented access, including attending editorial meetings and being privy to choices in photographers and content. The book includes commentary from Anna Wintour, creative director Grace Coddington, photographer Steven Klein, Condé Nast Publications Inc. chairman S.I. Newhouse Jr., an excerpt from Susan Sontag and even a story by former editor Grace Mirabella, whose
departure was less than amicable.

Oliva enjoyed the opportunity to go behind the scenes at Vogue, but admitted it was a little daunting to be the first inside. The cover features a black-and-white photograph that has appeared inside the magazine, featuring models Linda Evangelista and Kristen McMenamy. It was done by Steven Meisel in 1996 at a château in France.

Pre order it now at Amazon – I will soon… when I pay off my credit card a little bit more.

Badgley Mischka has been busy with licensing deals

After signing Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen to front their Spring 2006 campaign (pictured right), Badgley Mischka have been busy launching their own range of licensed eyewear, handbags and cold-weather accessories lines… oh and its first fragrance that launched in July.

Now they have signed a licensing deal with Ariela-Alpha International for a lingerie line after just introducing bridge sportswear, shoes, wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses through other licensing agreements.

I don’t think the Olsen twins will be back to model the lingerie, but that could be semi amusing. At least they’re not as stick skinny as Nicole Richie.

Pretty figure hugging dresses at the 2006 Emmy Awards - copy the looks from the night

The 58th Emmy Awards had more than it’s fair share of boring gowns. But within the weeds there were a few shining lights. Debra Messing and Sarah Chalke looked pretty in their light coloured gowns, one in tiered  with soft white layers that showed off her post baby figure and the other in a soft vintage lace with a soft side pony tail and whispy pieces of hair framing her face.

Debra Messing in Alberta Ferretti, channel her in a BCBG Max Azria Tier Strapless Gown; Sarah Chalke in Louisa Baccaria, channel her in a Rebecca Taylor Lace V Neck Dress.

Evangeline Lilly and Maria Menounos both opted for figure hugging numbers. Evangeline’s purple gown was cut perfectly to highlight her slim figure and finished with flowing locks. While Maria chose a black lace number that showed off her curves and finished the look off with a collar, a headband and pretty pony tail to keep the look young and fun.

Evangeline Lilly in Versace, channel her in a Camilla and Marc Grace strapless frock; Maria Menounos, channel her in a Jayson Brunsdon Taos gown.

My other favourite of the night? Jennifer Love Hewitt in a full length metallic silver Collette Dinnigan gown that shimmered as she walked.

I spy…. Rachel Bilson loving her Zac Posen Aurora bag

She’s just turned 25 and the TV show that put her on the map is about to air it’s fourth season. No wonder Rachel Bilson looks so carefree as she totes around the same Zac Posen Aurora bag last week – the same bag more than once? Who would have thought a stylish starlet would do such a thing!

As seen in the Zac Posen 2006 Resort collection the Aurora bag is available at Bergdorf Goodman, but not online – yet.

First Versace, now on to Hugo Boss for Jonathan Rhys Meyers

After signing on the dotted line for Versace just over 2 months ago, Jonathan Rhys Meyers has signed on to inject some youthful vigor to the Hugo Boss frangrance brand.

He will appear in a print advertising campaign shot by Rankin that Proctor and Gamble hope will boost the 11 year old Hugo Boss fragrance in the US.

With a rumoured $1 million dollars a year offered to Rhys Meyers, P&G have have high expectations for the Hugo Boss brand.

The twentysomething Rhys Meyers is intended to entice the younger, edgier set for the Hugo franchise, while the Boss franchise draws a slightly more mature and sophisticated user, said Nicholas Munafo, executive vice president of sales and marketing of P&G Prestige.

The campaign marks the first time that the franchise has used a celebrity model, added Munafo. Although neither Munafo nor Loftus would discuss the terms of Rhys Meyers’ contract, industry sources estimated that the actor is earning about $1 million a year as the face of the brand.

The ads will begin running in December men’s and lifestyle magazines.

Karl Lagerfeld lets us know what he really think, Stella and Adidas do Yoga…

  • Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t hold back when he’s asked his opinion on some stars going around at the moment. In the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar he said he was “not that impressed” by Jessica Simpson, that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen “don’t have a strong enough image. They still have to make the movie that everybody remembers.” To add to that he thinks they’re frumpy. He’s also not fond of Kate Moss’ junkie boyfriend (or fiancé) Pete Doherty or Heidi Klum’s “Project Runway”. Oh and that Lindsay Lohan plays “dangerously with her own life.”

Legging it – another 80s trend comes back

Pictured L-R: kate Moss, Kirsten Dunst, Rachel Bilson, Sienna Miller, Mischa Barton, Hilary Duff, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Jessica Alba.

Many celebrities have been paying homage to the 80s era of fashion when tights and leggings (minus the stirrups) were the thing to wear with oversized off the shoulder tops.

Paired with pretty skirts, long tops, or just worn under skirts to keep the legs warm during the transeasonal months, they have been spotted on every other young starlet around the world.

For a less 80s look, slip on a pair of opaque black tights with a mod 60s and 70s style mini shift dress.

Pick up a pair of tights now in every colour and pattern around to channel Kate, Kirsten, Rachel, Sienna, Mischa, Mary-Kate and co.
