Got nothing to do tonight? Visit the Powerhouse Museum

While I like to pretend I have “things to do, people to see” on days and nights were you’re “suppose to” be out and fancy free I do boring stuff. Like read magazines, surf the web and chat with girlfriends - my life is far from glamourous (thank goodness, I couldn’t afford it if it was!).

But perhaps this Thursday night I might actually have something to do and people to see (well people to watch while they talk). The D Factory at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum is having it’s monthly fashion event. This month designers Kirrily Johnston, Kate Hurst and Juliana Foong from High Tea with Mrs Woo, give an insider’s view on Australian Fashion Week.

Could be interesting!

And did I mention it was FREE? Perfect for a cheap night out - especially when those late night shopping sales are calling you…

Everyone’s wearing Christian Louboutin Bruges everywhere!

I really should have posted about these shoes a long time ago. What shoes? The Christian Louboutin Bruges ofcourse.

So thanks to Suz, who constantly picked up every “similar” pair in every shoe store we stepped in, here is that long-time-coming-post.

There is something about these Christian Louboutin platform shoes that have some major star appeal. Seen on every young starlet from the Hilton, Olsen, Duff and Simpson sisters, to Christina Aguilera, Nicole Richie, and Kate Bosworth.

They’re so popular you can get them in the classic pumps, with either a cork or stacked wood heel. If that’s not enough choice for you, it comes in classic leather, patent leather, or suede. Then there is a variety of classic colours; red, black, brown and tan. Oh and you can choose from peep toed or closed toe pumps / sling backs - though the peep toe and sling backs have a different name (Yoyo, with the criss-cross leather straps over the toe are known as the Miss Marple).

And like an informercia, that’s not all…

There is the iconic Christian Louboutin red soles. And the price tag of over US$700 a pair. So if you want to channel Nicky Hilton, Jessica Simpson or Christina, you might have to settle for one of the zillion available everywhere. Suz managed to keep picking up ones made by Tony Bianco going for AUD$109.95 a pop. Bebe’s patent leather Penelope shoe bears a striking resemblance to the sling backed peep toe Bruges Mary-Kate Olsen has been sporting recently. Or check out the Rounded Toe Wood Platform or the Peep Toe Stacked heels from Urban Outfitters.

Kate Moss’ smiling after signing on to model for Calvin Klein jeans

After having the drug charges against her dropped two weeks ago, Kate Moss must be ecstatic. It was the frenzy over those pictures that caused Chanel and H&M to drop her from their advertising campaigns almost immediately.

But Kate’s been coming back with a vengeance and making quite a sundae of it all now.

To add some whipped cream on to the good news, it was announce that she is going to appear in the Fall Calvin Klein Jeans ads. Almost similar to the very ones she shot over 10 years ago with Mark Wahlberg (Marky Mark for those of you old enough to remember the original boy band - New Kids on the Block). Many of those moody black and white ads featured Kate wearing nothing but a pair of Calvin’s.

This time around she is shot in similar positions with actor / model Jamie Doran, who can be seen on screen with Kirsten Dunst in Sophia Coppola’s movie, Marie Antoinette.

And for the cherry on the Kate Moss sundae, she’s back with Burberry as the iconic British label assembles a ‘Galaxy of Brits’ for their fall ads to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

Not a bad come back at all… especially since she’s also featured in the new Louis Vuitton advertising campaign and will star in Bulgari’s Pour Femme fragrance re-launch.

Is there any ad campaigns she is not part of?

See some of Kate’s past advertising campaigns for Burberry and Calvin Klein Jeans below…

Oops… Who’s Steven Shine?

What’s worse?

The fact that a magazine is telling people to embrace neon again (I thought that trend was over like Laura Weisberger’s career at Vogue) or the fact they can’t spell Steven Shein?

Neon shoes? Or should I say NEON orange shoes? God no.

The Missoni pattern is a classic, the zigzag pattern in bold rich hues is easily recognized all over the world as Missoni. The Italian knitwear company is known for its eye catching prints, so when you’re on the beach in a skimpy bikini you’ll look cool and sexy at the same time.

Mischa Barton knows all about looking gorgeous on a beach in a Missoni bikini. It adds instant fun and colour to your day on the beach. The Missoni Sport Knitted ZigZag triangle bikini is a classic that will keep you looking fashionable for years to come. Almost justifying the price.

Nicole Kidman is now Mrs Keith Urban

Nicole Kidman married country singer Keith Urban today in Sydney. There weren’t any papparizzi snaps of him, but as expected Nicole glowed.

Of course you would look stunning if your gown was designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere for Balenciaga. I assumed the wedding dress would be one designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel, just because she is the face of Chanel No. 5.

But as the news leaked that it was actually Nicolas Ghesquiere, I guess it wasn’t that much of a surprise. Nicolas would have designed a beautiful dress to compliment the “gothic-style” church and Nicole’s fantastic figure and complexion to perfection.

As for the other details… they will be avaliable in some gossip magazine soon. Or online. After all their wedding was analyzed to death for over a week before.

Which celebrities are loves short shorts?

We love short shorts.

That “we” includes Kate Moss, Christina Aguilera, Rachel Bilson, Sienna Miller, Jennifer Aniston (wearing them to several publicity junkets for her latest movie, The Breakup), Mischa Barton, and Victoria Beckham… just to name a few.
They’re the hottest item to be found in any fashionable celebrities wardrobe (well except for Micha Barton’s pair which brings back horrible memories of a 12 year old me the mid 1990s wearing a pair that is quite similar - because those checkered cotton shorts were actually cool).

Easily dressed up or down with sexy heels or sassy flats, tailored shorts (also called City shorts) will keep you in style all year round - just get a longer crop and pair with a pair of tights or boots.
