Chanel Cruise 06/07 at Grand Central Station

New York’s Grand Central Terminal was host on the Chanel Cruise 06 / 07 show on Wednesday. Showing commuters, celebrities and the fashion pack alike what’s in store for Spring. Karl Lagerfeld said he chose the location because it symbolized a bygone era of fashionable traveling.

“In airports today, you have to go through those gates, there’s all that security,” said Lagerfeld. “In the old days, it was nothing like this. Traveling was an act of freedom. Now, travel is an act of boredom.”

The cruise collection was filled with beautiful chiffon empire waist dresses that skimmed the knees, classic tweed pieces in pastel summery colours, and easy breezy cotton separates. None of it would feel like an act of boredom for me. And there was stunning necklaces, ribbion or belts adorning every model. If that sounds too girly for you, Lagerfeld added a tough edge to many of his outfits with knee-high patent leather gladiator sandals.

The clothes were beautiful – after all do you ever expect anything less from Lagerfeld? – but it was the location that I thought was truly inspired. I wish I could have been at Grand Central Station to see the show unfold – the very place Jackie Kennedy Onasis, a Chanel fan nonetheless, had a part in it’s refurbishment.

P.S. Did you hear that Aussie girl, Nicole Colovos and he husband Michael, the team behind hit denim label Habitual have been named as the new head designers at Helmut Lang. They will be showcasing they’re first Helmut Lang collection in the Spring Summer 2007 shows.
