Cowboy Boots

Marissa – October 21, 2005

Cowboy boots, if worn a certain way can really rock your outfit. That’s probably why they have grown in popularity recently. Of course it also helps that Jessica Simpson worn some in her ‘These Boots Are Made For Walking” video, but we’ll look past that.

So how can you wear this western style shoe? In the summer time you can pair them with ‘daisy duke shorts’ – or a flowy peasant skirt if you are extra daring. In the colder months, cowboy boots look great when you tuck your jeans into them. For tops, I like to go with a plain tee, but if you want to look like the ultimate cowgirl wear a western style check shirt.

Another hurdle you have to go through when deciding what to wear with cowboy boots is what kind of belt to pair with it. My suggestion is to wear a western style belt. Also plain brown, or deep red belts work like a charm. Because the western style has been ‘in’ it is very easy to find westerny belts in stores so don’t worry if you don’t already own one.

Celebrities are even lapping up this adorable trend. It is not uncommon now-a-days to see a picture of a celebrity like Mary-Kate Olsen walking down the street rocking cowboy boots by pairing them with black leggings, as well as trend setters like Sienna Miller pair them regularly with skirts and skinny jeans.

The history of cowboy boots traces all the way back to the times when horsemen wore them. They go all the way back to the 1800’s! The style of cowboy boots caught on to be worn for leisure in 1954 because of Hollywood setting this trend. To this day cowboy boots are still worn by men and woman alike.

Although cowboy boots are harder to find in stores, you can pick up a pair at shopbop.com and Intuition for not a bad price.

So when did this trend kick off?
I’d say cowboy boots really started to become popular this past summer with all the craze of Jessica Simpson’s new video. Or when Sienna Miller started pairing them last year with boho style skirts.

L – R: Kate Bosworth, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Ritchie.

When will it end?
I would give it another year before the trend of cowboy boots diminishes. So if you don’t have a pair yet, it’s not to late to go and get one. You should still get a lot of use out of them in winter and summer.
