CHANNELLING: Rachel McAdams

Helen Lee - August 17 2005

Two months ago my Canadian friend was telling me about Rachel McAdams, and I asked: "Rachel Who?" I had no idea who she was, besides the fact that she played Allie Hamilton in the 2004 epic romance movie 'The Notebook' alongside Ryan Gosling.

Over the last few months we've seen Rachel McAdams step out on the red carpet looking beautiful without all the cliché "bling", that-dress-everyone-is-wearing, or hot male arm candy.

For a girl who told Alloy that she'll "put on a punk rock T-shirt, a '50s style skirt, and a pair of flip-flops. I like to mesh a whole bunch of things together." Rachel does quite well with her ensembles, whether it be for going down to get the groceries, or a stroll down the red carpet.

It's obvious she followed a few of the fashion trends growing up from the late 1980s to early 1990s with the footless tights look in various outfits. But pairing them with a demure or classy tops she pulls off a look that is modern and almost lady like. We won't mention that she appeared on TRL in a pair of footless tight and a pair of satin boxer shorts worn over the top though.

It is a good thing she's grown out of dressing entirely 'early 90s' though, otherwise we might see shoulder pads making an appearance again! These days Rachel prefers looking sophisticated in a pair of heels, jeans and a pretty top, with a nice trench coat thrown over the top. For the red carpet she chooses simple classic pieces with a modern or vintage twist.

As for accessories... well isn't a bag/clutch enough? No excess bling remember!

So why not add some of these pieces to your wardrobe now?
