The September Issue deleted scene: Andre Leon Talley, outraged by “lunch in car”

I’m assuming everyone has seen The September Issue? So we all agree that Vogue’s Creative Director, Grace Coddington was the breakout star, yes? Which would make Vogue’s Editor at Large, Andre Leon Talley the comic relief or joker. The DVD is out in the US on Tuesday February 23rd (it’s in stores now in Australia, for a rather pricey AUD$29.98 and in the UK from Amazon UK for £4.98) and with it comes a whole slew of deleted scenes.

Here’s one where Talley is rather hilariously outraged by having to have his lunch in his car due to tight schedules. Apparently “Anna doesn’t even make us eat lunch in the car”… though she has apparently suggested people skip lunch all together. But of course she has.

Before she was Lady Gaga, she was a club singer in a disco ball

Isn’t this photo heaven? I couldn’t decide if one of Lady Gaga’s backup dancers was really a man or not but even in 2008 it seemed that Lady Gaga would be destined to be a new gay idol thanks to her outrageous get ups and pop friendly songs.

The Grammy award winner clawed her way from a girl working the club scene and music festival circuit to one who was invited by perform at the A|X Music Lounge at the Winter Music Conference in 2008, singing three songs which included Paparazzi and Let’s Dance. Even before she brought in the no-pants look, she was sporting them in the form of a disco ball.

Ah Gaga, what a change a proper record deal and costume designer can do for a girl.

Check out the video of her performing below.

How Miranda Kerr and a stockbroker made it on to the same news segment

I’m sure if you were a guy, you’d send your mates photos of some good looking women (in this case Miranda Kerr) for them to peruse at work, but how many people can say they’ve been filmed by a national news outlet reading said emails? Not many I’m sure. Well in Australia, David Kiely, a stockbroker with Macquarie Private Wealth can now boast that has is claim to fame. He was looking at nude photos of Kerr he received via email when the Channel 7 news crossed over to a colleague for his opinion on interest rates – unfortunately for Kiely his computer screen is in full view of the television cameras and he was looking at nude photos of Miranda Kerr. Some sharp eyes spotted the activity on Kiely’s screen and the whole thing went viral.

Matthew Williamson to judge Project Runway; Nina Garcia “LA was almost impossible”

There hasn’t been as much buzz over season 7 of Project Runway as previous years, but since the show is back in its New York City home we’re hoping the show will get its feet back. Things are looking up though with Matthew Williamson taking up a seat in the guest judges chair for the third episode, entitled The Hi’s and Low’s of Fashion, which shows the quality of judges that come out of New York – according to Nina Garcia that is. She spoke to Media Bistro recently about how impossible the move to LA (Heidi Klum’s home base) was because it was hard to coordinate the schedules of Michael Kors, Garcia and Tim Gunn.

“The move to Los Angeles threw a wrench in all that because it was impossible to coordinate people’s schedules — Michael, Tim and I all have jobs in New York,” Garcia said. “The relocation of everyone to L.A. was almost impossible.”

Tavi Gevinson at Paris Haute Couture, but is she working for POP?

Image via @IsaacLikes

So last week it was rumored/tweeted-but-since-removed that young fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson of Style Rookie would be flown to Paris to cover the haute couture shows for Pop. The tweet by The Moment was removed but Fashionista were sure they saw the tweet.

Well we have proof that Tavi is indeed in Paris for the haute couture shows: she was snapped backstage at Christian Dior by New Zealand blogger, Isaac Hindin Miller as she interviewed Norwegian model Siri Tollerod. With a film crew beside her, we’ll be watching Tavi.ThePop.com very closely to see if the young fashion blogger has been lucky enough to score a trip to Paris through them or someone else.

Tavi also told Hindin-Miller than she had been in Paris for a day, but it felt like a week, so we’re curious as to what the young miss has been up to since touching down. Meeting with Kaiser Karl perhaps?

UPDATE: According to Jeanne Baker, the pink bow adorning blue-haired Tavi is by milliner Stephen Jones,
with British Grazia not happy about having to watch the couture show through it’s loops.

Check out pictures of their obstructed view below.

The odds are in for who will leave Project Runway 7 next

Betting odds for reality television shows amuse me, after all how are they calculated? We’ve asked someone, so stay tuned for the response. Until then we have the latest odds on who will be the second designer to get auf’d by Heidi Klum tonight. According to Bookmaker.com the odds are on Amy Sarabi, the designer who the Iranian background and works at Old Navy’s Mens Active, joining her could be model Sarah Bell. The odds are tight in this early stage, so I wouldn’t be quick to place a bet just yet – unless you want to chance a dollar or two. What is interesting is that even though Emilio Sosa won the first challenge with it came immunity for the next challenge is listed as a 13% chance of being eliminated, when in reality he has 0%. We’re just saying… Read the rest of this entry »

Luella Bartley to publish a book about English style

Luella’s Guide to English Style was a book Luella Bartley was set to publish last year, instead her designing commitments got in the way. As things played out, the former British Vogue editor/fashion designer now has time to work n her book after her namesake label lost its funding last month. It’s new launch date has been set to coincide with London Fashion Week this September. “She’s doing all the writing herself. It’s a style guide,” a spokesman at the Fourth Estate publishing house told the Independent. “It’s not going to be just a book about fashion. “It’s a work of social anthropology.” [Independent]

Biographies to read: Vita Prada and Olivier Theyskens: The Other Side of the Picture

I once lamented to Glamour’s Slave for Fashion blog about the lack of a Miuccia Prada biography (authorised or unauthorised) and it seems that my prayers have been answered with Vita Prada, an unauthorised biography on Miuccia Prada amd her relationship with Patrizio Bertelli released in Italy last year. It’s penned by Italian journalist Gian Luigi Paracchini and looks at how the empire was built. Meanwhile another designer’s career has been documented for a book, former Nina Ricci designer Olivier Theysken has had his relatively short designing career photographed by Julien Claessen and pulled together for a $120 book called Olivier Theyskens: The Other Side of the Picture. Now if someone could translate the Prada book into English… [Fashionologie, The Cut]

Mischa Barton & Ashton Kutcher’s The Beautiful Life revived for the web

beautifullife-smallIt seems that after finding greater fame on Twitter, Ashton Kutcher’s love of the web has grown and he’s utilizing his online pulling power to revive his fashion/model television series ‘The Beautiful Life’. Canceled after airing only two episodes on the CW with three more in the can, it stared the likes of Mischa Barton, Elle Macpherson and Sara Paxton. So what’s a boy to do? Turn it into webisodes on YouTube. “What we feel like we’re doing is creating, in some ways, an industry first,” Kutcher told Reuters. “A show that couldn’t find its legs on television, we believe can find its legs on the Web.”

The first five episodes of The Beautiful Life will air on YouTube from today. There’s no word on whether more episodes will be produced, but we’re guessing it will depend on the success of the first five episodes online and if the original stars will return to film more.

The September Issue is released on DVD in 2010, but we don’t rate its Award season chances

septemberissue-smallThe fashion world buzzed when we found out that Valentino: The Last Emperor made the shortlist for the 2010 Academy Awards and The September Issue didn’t. But who cares when the The September Issue DVD is due for release on February 23, 2010? The 2-disc DVD is set to retail for around USD$29.98 with special features that include over an hour of extra footage and deleted scenes. That’s more Grace Coddington, Anna Wintour and Andre Leon Talley antics for your viewing pleasure!

Meanwhile the 2010 Awards season nominees are slowly but surely being announced with neither The September Issue or Valentino: The Last Emperor making the cut for a Critics’ Choice Award or an Independent Spirit Award with documentaries called Anvil and Food,INC seemingly the front runners so far in the Best Documentary categories. But never fear, R.J. Cutler’s The September Issue has been submitted into the SAG awards (Valentino was not) and we’re eagerly awaiting news to see if Valentino made the cut for the Oscars.

Charlotte Gainsbourg to release new album ‘IRM’ followed by Balenciaga fragrance launch

charlotte-gainsbourg-irm2010 is set to be a big year for the daughter of Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg; Charlotte Gainbourg’s third studio album entitled IRM is set to be released on January 26, 2010 and a few weeks later Balenciaga’s first fragrance is set to be released with the talented brunette fronting the debut ad campaign. IRM is named derived from M.R.I., the medical procedure that Charlotte had to go through after suffering a head injury in 2007. The cover art for the new album, produced with Beck is haunting while the album can be heard her website now.

What do you think of Charlotte Gainsbourg, the singer?

Meanwhile, stay tuned for Balenciaga’s debut fragrance ad staring Charlotte – if her advertising campaign for Balenciaga Fall 2008/09 is anything to go by, it’s going to be amazing.
