Feminine, girlie, cute, quaint, with a dash of old fashion decadence. What more could you want from ruffles?
Just remember than this is a trend for the girlie girls among us, if the full on flounce of ruffles is not your thing, do steer clear.
Lucky for me, I love ruffles and semi girlie clothes. But of course like most of you I have rules as to what I can and can not wear. Ruffles should never be over the top, or by no means can the top be completely covered in ruffles.
I once tried on a ruffled top that looked so pretty on the coat hanger sitting in a mildly lit room of a boutique. But once on, all the horizontal ruffles made me look like I was 5 years old again going to a fancy dress party. It was really not a good look.
With something as intense as ruffles, always go for the tops where the ruffles delicately decorate the top to make what would have been a plain top, a pretty girlie one.
Let the ruffles float and form airy shapes that shimmer around you when you move. Give bold primary colours a go like Sarah Michelle Gellar, or keep it simple like Kirsten Dunst in classic and clean white.
If the collar is high, keep your arms clean and bare. Capped sleeved ruffle tops are perfect for taking you from day to night with the addition of a sexy pair of earrings or a pretty bangle or two. If patterns are your thing, try some polka dot ruffled top and do two trends in one hit. Just remember to keep the bottom simple to offset the top-heavy detail.
Ruffles are a great way for that girlie look with minimum fuss.
