8 HOT: Boho Skirts
Helen Lee - January 30 2005
For the last few years it has been about the Boho look. It has just changed names so much you may mistake it for a new trend. Boho Chic has been called everything from gypsy, peasant, vintage, hippie or even ethnic.
My favourite thing about the Boho trend is the skirts, they can be long or of medium length (you are pushing it a little in a mini) and always flowing. The skirt is usually in a pretty paisley or floral print, it can be tiered or pleated with a little embroidery or patchwork. The material is rough or sensual, often raw cotton or silk.
With the rise in stylish fashionistas, names like Kate Moss, Kate Hudson, Rachel Bilson, Sienna Miller and Kirsten Dunst stand out for their different 'Boho' look. They appear in style pages looking fresh and unstructured in their flowing clothes that cling or flow in all the right places - which is what Boho Chic is all about. You look pulled together, but without the clean lines and structure that comes with pencil skirts and suits.
While the look may not look great on all girls, do give a boho skirt a chance; match it with a plaited or tooled belt hanging loosely at the hips and dangly earrings. As you walk down the street swing your hips a little and you might just fall in love with the look like I did. My skirt collection now rivals my jeans one - quite a feat really (and it didn't cost me quite as much).
Here are some of my favourites available online now...
