Blazer Blazer Blazer

Blazer’s use to symbolize the power dressing world of business, but that is no longer the case. While current styles aren’t right for the boardroom, they are perfect for almost any other occasion. From school, a day out with the girls or that date you have on Friday night and you have no idea what you’re going to wear!

Blazers currently some in all sorts of materials, from cord to denim, velvet to cotton, with everyone from GAP to ultra fabulous Tom Ford for Gucci & Yves Saint Laurent. Even Marc by Marc Jacobs have some totally wearable pieces for the youth hitting the catwalk. Add a scarf in winter (or even spring for those who don’t live in the Northern Hemisphere), a diamante or classic brooch, or a flower pin just like Carrie Bradshaw and you’re perfectly styled to go.

So when did this trend kick off?

Casual blazers have been around in stores since mid last year, but the trend didn’t really kick off till the whole tweed trend kicked off later the same year. Blazers have always been a classic piece in any woman’s wardrobe thanks mainly to Coco Chanel, but always just a little too boardroom-ish for the teen one. Now it seems everyone from chain stores to high end designer stores are stocking them. And quite rightly so too!

As seen on celebs like…

When they’re out shopping, appearing on talk shows or even at film premieres, fashionable celebs know a good thing when they see it.

When will it end?

I like the trend, mind you I brought a American Rag blazer more than 5 years ago – a little before my time and waaay before blazers every ‘in’ again – so blazers are always going to be great wardrobe staples for the year round. No matter where you live around the world, you are sure to find Chanel-esq tweed blazers, denim and cord ones. Did I mention the variety of colours? Everything from pink, green and yellow to your more ‘normal’ shades of black, beige, brown, blue!
