Go short for National Donate Your Hair Week – all the celebrities are doing it

It’s National Donate Your Hair Week this week and as part of Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths initiative, we thought we’d give you a few reasons as to why you should cut your (un-colour-treated hair) and donate it so that it can be turned into real hair wigs for women undergoing cancer treatment.

5 reasons to consider cutting your hair short

  1. Summer is coming in Australia, do you really need long locks keeping the heat on your neck?
  2. There are so many hot short bobs you could go for.
  3. Imagine getting to sleep in for an extra hour because you don’t need to do your hair?
  4. All the celebrities are doing it. Look at Beyonce, Victoria Beckham, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence (pictured below), Jennifer Aniston, Emma Watson and Miley Cyrus all rocking various styles of short bobs and pixie cuts.
  5. You are supporting a really good cause

Pantene Australia ambassadors, Barney Martin, and, Zoe Foster Blake, are encouraging people to get involved by pledging their ponytails to the cause.

Zoë comments: “Pantene Beautiful Lengths does an incredible job of helping women with cancer feel like themselves again. Through my involvement in the program I’ve been lucky enough to meet both the amazing women who are generously donating their hair, and the women who the program supports. It takes six to eight ponytails to make one wig… the best reason to grab a few of your friends and host your own pontyail snip event during Pantene’s National Donate Your Hair Week.”

If you’re considering going short and donating your ponytail to the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, but not quite sure if the look will work for you, fear not, Barney (who happens to be our very own mane-man), gives his reasons why short can work for every occasion.

Barney Martin’s guide to short styles for every occasion:

Boardroom: “A cute pixie crop with a side part is the perfect grown up look to take you to the top in the boardroom.”

Work event: “Sweep the front of hair back off face to create a voluminous crown, and use pins to secure hair pulled back at the sides. The elegant look works well with chin length hair blow dried to turn in slightly at the ends.”
Tip: Use the Pantene Beautiful Lengths Strengthening Collection to smooth hair and help repair damage to prepare hair for this sleek look.

Night out: “Up the glam stakes for a night out with a layered shoulder length cut, with waves and subtle side fringe.”

Date night: “Go smooth and sleek with a glossy cut finishing just below your chin. Complete the look with a blunt fringe sitting just above your eyes for maximum impact.”
Tip: Use Pantene Styling Treatment Foam Smooth Straight before blow-drying for a smooth finish.

Music Concert: “For extra edge, a bleach blonde undercut is an ultra-cool way to rock a short style.”

Beach break: “For the ultimate in easy holiday styling, make the most of a low maintenance jaw length bob tousled by salt and sun. Opt for an eyebrow-grazing fringe for a playful edge.”

Since launch, over 6,000 ponytails have been donated to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. This year, help Pantene create even more real-hair wigs by growing your hair long and strong with the new Pantene Beautiful Lengths Strengthening Collection before you donate.
