Summer – a time for beaches, pools and many hours spent in the sun. It’s everyone’s favourite time of year, but one where it’s also important to look after your hair (and your skin with some quality SPF30+). And because of that, let me talk to you about hair oil.

I’m sure you’re confused as to why you would put oil in your hair since we often equate oil in our hair to dirty oily hair that we have to wash. But give me a second to explain. The ends of the hair shaft are often the most exposed to the elements and heat styling products and is essentially dead hair. Hair oil helps to keep the hair shaft soft and looking healthy so you can have long flowing locks all year round. After all split ends and breakages is not a pretty look and the only way to get rid of them is a visit to the hairdresser to cut them off. To keep hairdresser visits down to a couple a year, keeping hair healthy and full of life, we literally coat our hair in hair oil several times a week – especially after our recent trip to Thailand where we were in and out of the pool, beach and sun.

One of our favourite hair oil’s on the market at the moment is Garnier Fructis Miraculous Oil RRP$11.95, it is a beauty steal. Containing nourishing ingredients like Argan Oil that isn’t heavy on the hair, it really is a bathroom cabinet must-have. It leaves your hair feeling extra soft and silky and it can be used on all hair types.

How to use your Garnier Fructis Miraculous Oil:

  • Smooth it on to your hair – wet or dry – with your hands, leaving your hair instantly shiny and smooth. Make sure to avoiding oil on the roots.
  • Use it like a hair mask before you wash your hair. Put a healthy amount into your hair (staying away from the roots) and let it sit for 30 minutes or so for an extra moisture boost before you shampoo.
  • Add a few drops to your conditioner or deep conditioner for enhanced nourishment

How much Garnier Fructis Miraculous Oil do you need to use?

For short or fine hair: A 5 cent coin sized amount into the palm of your hand should be enough, approximately one pump of the bottle.

For long or thick hair: Dispense a 20 cent coin sized amount into the palm of your hand, approximately two – three pumps of the bottle.

Why go for sleek shiny hair this summer?

Simple – sleek hair is has been all the rage on the runways of New York, London, Milan and Paris for the Spring/Summer 2014 shows. While we love bouncy voluminous hair, we like to give our hair a break from the heat stylers every now and then to keep spilt ends and breakages at bay.
