Revealed: The new Qantas by Martin Grant uniform; modelled by Miranda Kerr

It has been 10 years since Qantas has revealed a new uniform and today the Australian airline has revealed the Martin Grant-designed uniforms that will take them into the next decade of air travel. The result? A fresh and contemporary uniform that combines the airline’s iconic red triangle in a fresh and non-literal way.

With iconic predecessors like Yves Saint Laurent and Emilio Pucci, the bar was set high for Martin Grant and he quickly set to the task designing 35 styles for both male and female staff members in 13 different sizes and for men and women aged from 21 – 65.

The range of perfectly tailored suiting that incorporates the two iconic Qantas symbols – the triangle logo and the striking Qantas red. The new colour palette includes black, navy, red and fuchsia, new additions to the product range include a chic trench coat with red lapel detail, an array of georgette crepe scarves and a chic hat. The new look uniforms fit in with the type of customer that flies Qantas and has a classically beautiful look and feel.

“I have always loved the Qantas logo as it’s very nostalgic for me,” Martin says. “The idea of a flying kangaroo! The red triangle, movement and clarity. I decided that this was the flight I would take. Navy blue, such a wonderful classic colour; not as grim as black, but still sharp and crisp, and never goes out of style. Red and white, the colours of Qantas. Adding to the Qantas red, I expanded into a range of reds including fuchsia pink and ruby red.”

“The uniforms contain nothing tricky, just the key codes that never date. Great fit, close to the body without being tight, a narrow lapel, and the perfect trench. The attitude slick but relaxed and comfortable. Sharp shapes in stretch comfort fabrics.”

Qantas and Martin Grant also teamed up with Merino to embrace Australian wool into the suiting and knitwear, sourcing wool from over 50 wool growing properties around Australia, including flocks from close to where Qantas began at Longreach in Queensland. Sustainability has also been a huge influence on Grant who chose to use sustainable materials like bamboo cotton in the freight uniforms and recycled bottle tops for the cabin crew hats.

The Martin Grant for Qantas uniform unveil will feature Australian supermodel and Qantas ambassador Miranda Kerr walking the runway for the airline. Stay tuned for more photos of the uniforms and from the launch event.
