The opening show of L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2013 was definitely a must-see, not only because it was David Jones’ A/W 2013 offering, but because British fashion designer Mary Katrantzou.

Known for her work with prints, it was a fresh looking runway which featured the gorgeous Jessica Gomes and Samantha Wills strutting their stuff. Australian designers are known for rocking an amazing print too (think Camilla, Alice McCall and Ginger & Smart) but Katrantzou took things up a notch with her tailoring and print work. Her Spring/Summer 2013 collection featured cleaver pleating, print placement and tailoring gave each piece its own type of structure and appeal that has us wishing for a wardrobe full of her designs. Inspired by children who would collect stamps from foreign places, Katrantzou’s collection featured exotic prints that took fashion lovers around the world, connection different cultures and showcased adventures you could have on your travels.

Beauty wise, we loved the plum red lip and slick black hair – unlike some crazy runway beauty we’ve seen in the past, this was a look that could easy work off the runway thanks to the talented Rae Morris for L’Oreal Paris. We’re meeting the talented makeup artist later today to chat beauty, so stay tuned!
