What young fashion-loving girl doesn’t want to have breakfast at Tiffany’s thanks to Audrey Hepburn and that famous movie? That is what we did on Wednesday morning as the winner of the LMFF 2013 National Designer Award was set to be announced, fittingly one of their sponsors was Tiffany & Co so coffee and champagne was on hand along with breakfast canapés as Alexander and Tim Britten-Finschi of From Britten (pictured above with Barbara Palvin) were announced as the winners.
The Britten-Finschi brothers are a talented duo whos tricks of the trade is menswear – sometimes the lesser celebrated discipline in Australian fashion. They beat out the likes of Michael Lo Sordo, Lui Hong, Livia Arena and Kathryn Beker to win the coveted prize and the $10,000 prize money.
The brothers were so shocked that they won, that they charmed the crow with their speechlessness as LMFF CEO Graeme Lewsey attempted to chat with them on stage. They have since revealed that they will be using their prize money on a solo show at next month’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia.
From Britten’s design was eye catching as it walked out on a chiselled male model wearing a collarless shirt, a black vest, look black pants and a striking dark teal wool overcoat.
The LMFF National Designer Award is open to all Australian fashion labels in their first five years of business, and is considered one of the most prestigious fashion prizes in the country for young designs. From Britten are only second menswear label ever to receive the award, previously won by Song For The Mute in 2011. Previous winners include the likes of Josh Goot, Toni Maticevski, Yeojin Bae, Romance Was Born and Christopher Esber.
The breakfast continued on after the presentation ceremony with fashionable guests like Megan Gale, Barbara Palvin and Kirstie Clements mingling with the finalists.
