Yeojin Bae opens a pop up store and gives us tips for Spring Racing season

She’s one of Australia’s favourite fashion designers, and now not only has Yeojin Bae launched a diffusion line, YB J’AIME, but she has also opened a pop-up shop in Melbourne. Located at 234 Collins Street, there is no doubt that gorgeous space will be a hit among fashionistas preparing for a day at the races.

Known for a timeless and elegant silhouette, Yeojin Bae‘s chic designs have been among our most-loved for quite some time now, and so we’re thrilled that the pop-up shop is here just in time for spring racing and offering some stunning French-inspired looks. Channelling 1930s glam, the chic and girly designs consist of lace and intricate embroidery, with hues ranging from peach to pastel pink, as well as splashed of black and white. (Perfect for Derby Day!)

But the pop-up store is open for one month only, so don’t hesitate to drop by to check out the latest Yeojin Bae looks.

In celebration of the Melbourne pop-up opening, we quizzed Yeojin on all things fashion, racing and travel, as well as her tips for a winning horse.

You’ve been busy lately! What made you decide to open the pop-up store in Melbourne? Are there any plans for a permanent store in the city?
The timing all fell into place, with the launch of YB J’AIME being so well received and the availability of a beautiful space at 234 Collins. And with the busy race season approaching we wanted to give our clients a chance to view the full collection in one space.

The YB J’aime diffusion line is beautiful- what is the typical YB J’aime wearer like?
I don’t think there is one typical YB J’AIME wearer- I want the YB J’AIME collection to be ageless and to make the wearer look chic but effortless.

What fashion advice would you give to a first-time race-goer? What kind of look should they go for?
My recommendation for race wear is to keep it sophisticated  and feminine, and to wear comfortable shoes with heels that don’t sink into the lawn.

What are some of the key trends that we can expect to see at the races this year?
My picks for track side trends are beautiful lace fabrications, chic pant suits and lots of colour from pastels to neons.

Will you be attending any of the race days, and if so, what will you be wearing?
I will be judging Myer Fashions on the Field and attending Derby day, which is my favourite race day. I plan to wear new season YB J’AIME in the Derby day colours of black and white.

What do you think is the best thing about the Spring Racing Carnival?
I love how Spring Racing carnival allows people to dress up and have a really fun time with fashion and accessories.

What do you do in your ‘down time?’ Where are your favourite places to travel?
I’m in Bali right now staying at the beautiful Karma Kandara resort, and have had lots of time to read on the beach, practice yoga and eat lots of amazing local food.

Which horse are you tipping to win the Melbourne Cup?
I watched Dunaden win at the BMW Caulfield Cup, and will be placing our bets on him for the Melbourne Cup.

Be sure to check out the Yeojin Bae pop-up shop while it’s open. You can find the store at Collins 234 Boutique Place, Shop G1A, 234 Collins Street, Melbourne.
