New York Fashion Week S/S 2013: Max Azria strikes gold with Herve Leger

While we’re busy devouring all of the amazing looks to come out of New York Fashion Week so far, we can’t help but spare a thought for the designers. If we think the week looks busy (correction: month, once we factor in London, Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks), we can only imagine how intense it is for the artistic geniuses that bring us the newest trends and creations.

And while the stress of designing and ensuring the runway shows run to perfection would be hard enough to a designer with one show to worry about, imagine those with more. Think Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Miuccia Prada and Donna Karan, all of whom have at least two collections to design. Essentially, a lot to design and not a lot of time to rest, relax and enjoy.
We can of course add Max Azria to that list. Earlier in the week we saw and loved his latest BCBG line, and now the focus is over to Herve Leger.

The first thing that springs to our minds when we think of Herve Leger is, of course, chic bandage dresses that we would love to be able to squeeze into one day. This season, the faithful bandage dress was given a slight facelift, and the look du jour consisted of the trademark style being updated with a soft and feminine flair. Consisting of beautiful soft hues, prints and textures, the 50 Shades of Grey motif that we are (somewhat unfortunately) becoming accustomed to this NYFW crept on to these designs too, this time in the form of leather harnesses. Guess that book really is headed for world domination!

There were some Asian-inspired details evident on the designs, with delicate prints in white, florals and gentle pinks offset by kimino shapes and side splits in the dresses. This was then juxtaposed against the bad girl, I-don’t-give-a-damn vibe that is permeating through the collections: tough leather harnesses and detailing.

It’s definitely one way to show that spring fashion can indeed be hot, and we love Azria for being the one to remind us… twice!
