New York Fashion Week S/S 2013: Indian opulence at Marchesa

One of our favourite design duos, Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, otherwise known as the masterminds behind Marchesa, reminded us why they are the go-to girls for red carpet looks this week in New York.

Inspired by India, their spring collection was a rainbow of Bollywood colours with dazzling embroidery and elaborate embellishments. Draped dresses with lace overlays, bare midriffs, rich silks and wrapped saris paraded down the runway in a flourish of rich hues.

This is definitely a collection for the red carpet, with few looks having the ability to translate into real life fashion. However, we’re hoping the rich Indian motifs will trickle their way down to high street fashion. We can definitely picture ourselves rocking royal purples, deep navy blues, burnt reds, shimmering golds and hot pinks next spring.

If Indian goddess was the look that Chapman and Craig were going for, it is certainly what they achieved, and we’re sure it won’t take too long for these designs to start appearing on the red carpet.

But the dynamic looks did not stop there. We adored the flawless beauty looks created by Laura Mercier’s Talia Shobrook, lead makeup artist for the show.

Our favourite part of the overall look was the eyes, which were illuminated with specs of gold and reiterated the dreamy opulence of the collection. Making the eyes truly stand out was the black opaque liner drawn along the lower lashes, which you can achieve by using both the Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eyeliner in Black Ebony and Tightline Activator.

We may not be able to get our hands of the lustworthy designs on the Marchesa runway, but we can definitely try to achieve the whimsical looks on our eyes. Will you be trying this in spring?
