MBFWA: Jenny Kee does eclectic Australiana in her Spring/Summer ’12 collection

When you think of the term Australiana, the first thing that comes to mind is definitely not stylish. Drab perhaps, even tacky. But Jenny Kee‘s installation at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia on Thursday redefined our opinions. Styled by Romance Was Born designers Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales, the wildly crazy collection was never going to be anything less than quirky-cool.

An acclaimed artist as well as designer, Kee is known for her vibrant designs that encapsulate her love of the Australian landscape in bright, bold and daring colours. There were no pastels here; rather it was an explosion of rainbow bright hues including pink, crimson, cobalt, citrus and orange. The box was transformed into a magical outback setting, with dreamtime art motifs featuring on many of the garments. The beauty looks from MAC Cosmetics were no different, with models sporting a rich magenta colour not only on their lips and eyelids, but forehead as well. This is definitely not a beauty look for the fainthearted!

While probably not the most wearable show we’ve seen, it definitely impressed us with its eclectic and original presentation.
