MBFWA: Camilla Spring/Summer 2012-13 goes tribal around the world

We took a whirlwind trip around the world on Monday, and all without even having to leave the Harbour City. Rather, it was the Camilla show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia that had us traipsing the globe, with inspiration from Australia, Bollywood, Asia and the Tropics evident in the collection, to name only a few. In the jam packed tent, designer Camilla Franks (known for her colourful range of luxe kaftans) revealed her Spring/Summer collection in a flourish of graphic floral prints, paisleys, tropicals and animal print motifs that kept the capacity crowd captivated.

Set to a soundtrack of wild tribal drum beats, it was like the colours of Australia had some alive on the very garments that were parading before us. Boomerang necklaces, feathers, stacked bangles, faux spears, statement earrings and headscarves were just a few of the accessories used to bring the collection to life (even more than it already was!) We moved through earth prints, to tropical prints with an oriental vibe, and then a jungle-esque feel with animal motifs. The makeup, by Napoleon Perdis, varied subtly for each model, with various splashes of colour featured on the eyes, while only the centre of the lips sported noticeable colour.

It was wild, it was crazy, it was Camilla Franks giving her clientèle exactly what they wanted.
