MBFWA: Bec & Bridge tell us about their Spring Summer 2012 collection

We adore Becky Cooper and Bridget Yorston, the clever women behind Australian fashion brand Bec & Bridge and in the midst of their hectic pre-Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (previously known as Australian Fashion Week) show, they took the time to answer some questions about their upcoming collection.

What was the inspiration behind the Spring/Summer 2011-12 collection?

We’ve been inspired by the Amalfi Coast and the Island of Capri. Bec holidayed there last year and her photos and descriptions of the place, rich in history, set our imaginations alight. The vivid colours, landscapes, architecture, wild bougainvillea and pure white light with a constant sea breeze have all inspired us in one way or another.

We really just wanted to develop a collection that is super easy to wear. Effortless and elegant without being too casual. It’s a slightly more sophisticated direction for us and one we think the Bec & Bridge girl will really identify with.

What were your hair and beauty inspirations?

The inspiration for the hair this season was fairly simple, we loved the idea of being on holiday and getting out of the water with salty skin and hair and just running your fingers through it letting pieces fall across the face. A nonchalant effortless yet very seductive kind of beauty.

Alan White from GHD has long been one of our favourite session stylists and we feel very honoured to be working with him on our show this season. He understands the ethos behind the brand and how our girl wants to look. The hair for our show is quite a departure for what we would normally do but it feels right, an evolution of sorts that Alan has helped us to realize and will execute beautifully.

Could we get a cryptic teaser on what to expect from your show?

What is your favourite thing about fashion week?

We feel an overwhelming sense of relief and satisfaction at seeing the final collection all lined up backstage on the models, just minutes before show time.

Best fashion week memories?

We loved everything about working with the iconic Australian brand, Akubra, for our 2011 show last year.

We can’t wait to see your show ladies!
