First look: Dolce & Gabbana Menswear S/S 2012 celebrates Italian cinema

Back in October the guys at Dolce & Gabbana had brought together a vertible who’s who of Italian actors to Portofino, Italy to shoot their Spring/Summer 2012 menswear advertising campaign. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the cliffs and the sea, the campaign was shotby Mariano Vivanco and give an intentionally candid look into life in the Southern Italian village.

Reminiscent of scenes of an Italian-style comedy, the likes of Giuseppe Fiorello, Francesco Scianna, Filippo Nigro, Thomas Trabacchi, Primo Reggiani and Chiara Francini showcase typical scenes of: a baptism, Sunday with the family, a portrait with mother, at the bar with friends, afternoons at the beach, courting the village beauty, guy talk, a stolen kiss on the docks and a birthday party with relatives.

The choice of spontaneous peeks into the life of a Portofino family was to highlight the values behind Dolce & Gabbana: Italian spirit, tradition, family, love, passion, joie de vivre and the ability to capture the modernity of the past and to render it contemporary.

A stunning menswear campaign we can’t decide if we love these images of the behind the scenes images we saw on Swide in October.
