Havaiana Flip Flops – designer Missioni x Havaianas anyone?

Missioni Havaiana Flip Flops

It seems we can’t go a few months without a Missoni collaboration being announced. First there was Converse (who just launched their Converse x Missoni Chuck Taylor Spring 2011 collection), then one with S.Pellegrino in June, then Toy Watches late last year, followed by an announcement that Margherita Missoni was the ambassador for Merino Wool. Now what’s next?

Missoni x Havaianas spring/summer 2011, bringing together some of Italy’s best with one of Brazil’s most popular exports for another collection (following a high top collaboration last year).

Like the Converse collaboration, Missoni have added varies styles of their trademark zig zag pattern to Havaiana’s popular rubber flip flops and espadrilles. The colors were not chosen by accident either, with Angela Missoni combining the red, white and green of the Italian flag with the green and yellow of the Brazilian flag.

“I have always had a real passion for Brazil, a country that to me has so many things in common with Italy,” Angela said in a release. “I love the Brazilian’s joyful colourful lifestyle, which I find so seductive, inspirational, and symbolic of the imagery and taste of Mission. It’s no coincidence that Missoni is one of Brazil’s best and loved Italian brands!”

An extra addition to the collection is a shoe bag. The Missoni x Havaianas flip flops collection should drop in April 2011 in Europe. The collection is scheduled to launch in Australia this year, but no date and price range has been confirmed.

UPDATE April 20, 2011:
Missoni x Havaianas are in US stores now with the rubber flip flops retailing for US$60 – $70 and the espadrilles for US$130. Ouch!

Fun fact: Rubber flip flops are called thongs (or rubber thongs) in Australia, while in New Zealand they call them Jandles.
