Missoni dresses up Toy Watches in time for Christmas

The youthful watch brand, ToyWatch has been given a high-end fashion touch by Missoni in a collaboration aptly called ‘ToyWatch dressed by Missoni’. And at first sight, we were not impressed by the design – which is basically a plastic or ceramic watch face attached to a beautiful Missoni print strap. You couldn’t get two more different styles if you tried (well you probably could, but we’re being dramatic). Then again we’ve never loved watches with alternative strapping, give us a chain or leather strap any day.

Mara Poletti, Vice President of ToyWatch claims the collaboration is “fashion meeting fashion” in a press release:

“We are really pleased to announce this co-branding initiative between Missoni and ToyWatch; it’s fashion meeting fashion” says Mara Poletti Vice President of ToyWatch. “Restyling existing materials and fabrics to create something new and original, something absolutely exclusive, is part of ToyWatch’s DNA; being able to do this with Missoni, a maison representing Italian excellence in fashion and creativeness, is a real honor for us” .

Angela Missoni relates the design of the watch strap to designing a Missoni scarf:

“This Toywatch is wound and knotted around the wrist like a band, symbolically combining with knit fabrics and textiles, distinctive prints and patterns,” explains Angela Missoni. “I designed it drawing inspiration from the scarf, a key accessory of Missoni fashion.”

The ToyWatch dressed by Missoni collection is made up of six limited edition models, each available in three colours with only 250 pieces per model to be sold to the public. The collection will hit ToyWatch & Missoni boutiques as well as top retailers around the world from December 2010 – just in time for Christmas present shopping.

No word on the price of whether this will be an ongoing initiative, we’re guessing the watching will set you back from $400+ and hope this is just a passing collaboration.
