Romance Was Born designs costumes for the Sydney Theatre Company

Australia’s quirky fashion darlings, Anna Plunket and Luke Sales of Romance Was Born have branched out into theatre costume design for a Sydney Theatre Company production next year. Perhaps spawned from their mutual admiration of Cate Blanchett, the company’s co-artistic director with her husband, who is often spotted in their designs.

And the theatre production that Plunkett and Sales have designed the costumes for? That would be Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness by Anthony Neilson which is set two centuries ago in 1810. It opens in June 2011 and it makes for an ideal partnership with the play much lauded for its theatrics and fantastical elements. The London Theatre Blog calling the play a “garish and cruel spectacle of the nineteenth-century freak-show”, with The Independent called it a “Victorian freak show for our time.”

It seems like the designer duo known for their outrageous and highly imaginative designs is the perfect fit for the Amazing Feats of Loneliness theatre production.

So, Romance Was Born fans, mark down these dates in your calendar. Edward Gant’s Amazing Feats of Loneliness by Anthony Neilson runs from 21 June – 23 July 2011. Previews begin from 16 June 2011.
