Mulberry for Target – the full look book and prices!

When news broke that Mulberry was designing a collection for Target America I was excited – I love Mulberry and am the proud owner of a bag or two by the British luxury accessories brand. Then came the sneak peek on Gilt.com – which showcased cute bags, albeit targeted at a much more teen-orientated audience than myself. But the Mulberry for Target ads in magazines gave me hope. It was cute and the bags didn’t look too shabby. But then when I received a copy of the lookbook (with prices) I could help but hail the wonders of Photoshop.

Mulberry for Target hits stores in less than 4 days (in Target stores around America and online at Target.com on October 10, 2010) – and I was slightly disappointed. The selection on Gilt was pretty much what is available in stores, just with a few different colours thrown in for good effort per style.

While the under-$50 price point should have been a good indication of the bags, I actually don’t mind the large tote (which may be ideal for my carry-on luggage when I head back from the States) or the cross-body bags. And dare I say the pink leopard print – inspired by their Autumn/Winter 2010 print – isn’t too garish for the eye. I like the selection of oversized totes, to satchels, crossbody bags and mini messenger bags. I’ll have to see them in person to pass final judgment.

While it may be a letdown for some, I’m secretly pleased that the Mulberry Alexa bag hasn’t been made into a ‘Mulberry for Target Alexa bag’, instead the Bayswater style is the only one that’s most obviously remade into a cheaper version.

Will you be queing up to snag yourself a Mulberry for Target bag?

I can’t wait to see this collection in person when I hit Las Vegas for the Blog World and New Media Expo in just a few days time – I have to arrive early to get in some shopping time you see 😉

The $50 price is great for a brand luxury handbag. Even if the USA version is slightly different then the UK one, I really think that it is worth it.
