RAFW S/S 2011 Preview: Nicky Zimmermann on her upcoming collection

With a recently launched store in New York City, Zimmermann is a much-buzzed about Australian brand. Everyone loves their relaxed sophisticated clothing and of course their stunning swimwear. We took a few minutes to ask Nicky Zimermmann about their upcoming Spring/Summer 2010/11 collection which is set to debut at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in just under two weeks.

Tell us a little about the collection you’re going to launch for S/S 2010/11
NZ: The collection is called The Vanishing Point. We started with a simple progression of tonal colour, starting at black and white. We wanted the collection to be pure, fresh and ordered. As the collection evolved we started to work with lines and geometric shapes, and melded these with naturally beautiful elements. There is an emphasis on column silhouettes and fabrics were chosen for weight to carry these shapes and to best represent our prints.

Who do you see this collection on?
NZ: There’s nothing more exciting than seeing a girl on the street wearing pieces from our collections. I love seeing the way girls put pieces together to create their own look.

What can we expect to see from your S/S 2011 show at RAFW?
NZ: We are working on a staging concept that reflects some key elements of the collection…. All to be revealed on the 4th of May!

What will you do when your RAFW show is over?
NZ: We’ll have a small break locally before heading to the U.S to check on our new store and to present our swim collection in July.

What are some of your favourite websites/blogs to read?
NZ: Style.com. Net-a-Porter (a Zimermman stockist), Garance Dore

Stay tuned for reports straight from her Rosemount Australian Fashion Week runway show (or soon after). We’ll be reporting from RAFW as well as tweeting live so follow us at @sassybella.
