TV’s Trash Bags, just like Glad’s only vinyl

Just speaking of one person’s trash being another person’s treasure, I stumbled upon TV’s Trash Bags (pictured above left) in one of my favourite Melbourne boutique’s the other week and apparently they are a hot ticket item among the fashionably forward crowd at all the trendy boutiques.

Obviously modeled on the drawstring garbage bag (pictured above right), the look was recreated by Monika Tywank and Ingrid Verner from the fashion label, TV, in vinyl (inspired by Chanel’s Coco Cabas much?) and given a hefty price hike.

The idea is inspired and the pair did win the prestigious Tiffany’s New Designer Award at the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival in 2006, but is it really fashion forward (and environmentally friendly) to be promoting the use of garbage bags? Not to mention, commercially… how many people would tote around a AUD$180 (approx USD$130) handbag that literally looks like one you could pick up at the supermarket for about $3 for a box of 12.

Then again everyone went crazy over the Chanel Coco Cabas which was a “designer” trash bag, but it was Chanel.

Would you tote a vinyl trash bag look-a-like around?
