Valentino: The Last Emperor close to being nominated for an Oscar

Valentino Garavani’s hope of winning an Oscar for the documentary Matt Tyrnauer produced and directed about his last year at his namesake fashion house has come a step closer to coming true. The Valentino: The Last Emperor documentary has been shortlisted for the Academy Awards 2010 best documentary.
In July, Tyrnauer revealed that Garavani had hoped to win an Oscar with the film:
“Matt, I want to win an Oscar,” Tyrnauer recalled Valentino saying to him after a standing ovation at a screening. “I didn’t have the heart to tell him [that if the movie won the Oscar] I would get the award, not him.”
The 15 shortlisted documentaries will advance into the voting process for the 82nd Academy Awards with the nominations announced on February 2, 2010.
Meanwhile Anna Wintour may be the most powerful woman in fashion, but even she couldn’t make the short list with R.J. Culter’s The September Issue not making the cut.
If Valentino: The Last Emperor makes it through… can he please bring his adorable pugs?
