Valentino: the most difficult man to ever walk the world

valentino-lastemperorMatt Tyrnauer, producer and director of Valentino: The Last Emperor may have seen more of Valentino’s last years at his namesake fashion house, but being a fly on the wall in his life was a little “difficult”.

Whilst on the promotional trail for the documentary in Toronto, he called the Italian designer “the most difficult man to ever walk the world.”

With production spanning from June 2005 to July 2007, Tyrnauer was obviously able to tough it out.

According to Page Six, Valentino had hopes of winning an Oscar with the documentary.

“Matt, I want to win an Oscar,” Tyrnauer recalled Valentino saying to him after a standing ovation at a screening. “I didn’t have the heart to tell him [that if the movie won the Oscar] I would get the award, not him.”

If you have a chance, catch Valentino: The Last Emperor at a cinema near you because whilst Tyrnauer called Valentino difficult, he also found him “fascinatingly unintellectual” but “fiercely intuitive.”
